In that case all energy, including goal, oil and gas, is 're-cycled' because it all ultimately came from the Sun:D I think the correct term for solar power is 'renewable'

There is a very good reason for using deep cycle batteries.. That is that the regular car starter batteries are designed to give high amps in short bursts but if you want them to last they cant be discharged more than maybe 20% of their stated capacity. If you pull much more than that out of...

    Full Scale 3D flying

Ahh.. ok. To be honest a 3-5 minute hover seems like a unusual manoeuvre to do in a show, even if the plane was capable of it (3 minutes plus of hovering would be a bit boring for the average airshow spectator)... Anyway, maybe technology has moved on so that they have the power to hover full...

    Full Scale 3D flying

Sorry guys but I've just watched the video, it's awesome, fantastic flying and I'm not taking anything away from the flying skills on display.... But I simply did not see a sustained hover at any point, let alone a hover for 3-5 minutes. In a couple of places the plane is momentarily stationary...

    Full Scale 3D flying

I didn't think any full scale aerobatic plane was capable of a hover, they simply don't have high enough thrust/weight ratio? They may be able to 'almost hover' momentarily as they reach the top of a vertical before sliding back down but as far as I know they cant quite maintain altitude in a...

    Discussion aileron differential??

Dont know if you guys have heard of Prof Mark Drela?.. He's prof of Aeronautics at MIT and IMHO probably the most respected authority on model aircraft aerodynamics there is in the world period. He's no 3D flyer, he's into sailplanes, but the concepts are the same. Anyway, he has a different...

    Knife Edge tips.

Thing that seems to be possibly being overlooked is that mixes dont make the plane fly KE by itself! Mixes are a million miles from a 'KE autopilot'.. No plane is totally stable in KE, you still have to fly it very activly, and you still have to compensate for some elements of coupling as it's...

    Knife Edge tips.

Funny all this talk about KE because i was practising it just this weekend. It was quite windy and turbulent so not the best of conditions, before i discovered mixing I'd never have dreamed of being able to hold KE within 6ft of the ground, even in perfect conditions (in good conditions I can...

Pretty much the same argument.. I'm sure there are those out there who would say you should learn without one "to make you a better pilot"

    Knife Edge tips.

Space, I'm not one for making excuses when I crash.. the Pitts incident was pilot error 100%. My confidence exceeded my skill, and I was showing off to a friend:o Crashing once in a while is part of the hobby as far as I'm concerned. However I honestly feel that my overall flying skill has...

    Knife Edge tips.

Using the learning to drive analogy.. Would you try to teach someone to drive with a car that pulled hard to the right whenever you touched the brakes? Would you argue that fighting with a car where the steering was not properly adjusted would improve their driving skills:confused: Would the...

I guess everyone has their views on KE mixing. I'm not a good enough flyer to speak with any authority but this was a post that Michael Wargo made elswhere on the subject of KE mixing. It mirrors well my thoughts on the subject, but coming from Michael carries a bit more weight (I hope Michael...

It's really the thickness of the wire that starts to be an issue, not so much the number of cells. You should be ok up to maybe 12AWG with the 35W iron. As for safety tips ; Don't do it on your mom's best table;) Also try not to breath in the fumes, it's nasty stuff.

    Replacing bearings in your motors

Personally I'd never tap new bearings in with a hammer, especially using the shaft collet as this puts pressure on the inner race, it seriously risks causing damage to the bearing races. I press them in, often you can do it with finger pressure but there they are tight you can press then using...

I'm running the flowing on my 48" EXP's: Edge EXP Motrolfly DM3615 750kv ZTW 85A Gens Ace 4s, 30c, 2200mAh Xoar 14x7 Laser EXP: Motrolfly DM2820 - 750KV ZTW 70A Gens Ace 4s, 30c, 2200mAh Xoar 13x7 They are both great set-ups. The DM3615 is overkill but works great in the Edge.

    48" EPP Yak

I've experienced this same issue a few times and every time it's been the ESC at fault. It may be worse with some motors but invariably (in my experience at least) it's the ESC is the root cause.

    48" EPP Yak

+1.. I've experienced this myself on Hacker and Extreme Flight ESC's (both possibly made in same factory?). Caused by inability of the sensorless ESC to work out the position of the rotor at start up. I'd debate the point about it not being a big deal.. I found it a real pain in the neck...
