Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

The trim tab has a separate servo. Connected via a 3 position switch, down position servo is centered and does not move, center position input is the elevator trim, moves opposite the trim input, up trim deflect tab down and visa versa, up position the trim operates like a boost tab, up...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Put the stabs back on the plane this morning, all is well. Also switched the Sullivan clevises out for Robart clevises, they are shorter and allow the crimp to remain outside of fabric through the entire travel range. Made brass bearings and washers to prevent the threads from running on the...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Made up an aluminum outlet cover, glued in place then cover with fabric reinforcement. The bottom is similar without the aluminum cover. Tomorrow will put it all back together and made sure it works.

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Got the left side stab and elevator covered with fabric today. Began tape on the stab but want to get the trim tab details worked out before taping the elevator. Cut a reinforcement for the top of the elevator out of 1/64" plywood. Preshrunk the fabric on a 1x2 wood frame. I took the fabric...

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

Found this on line. If you want Cub gauges you could install the four white colored gauges in the I fly Tallies housings. They are the same size as the I Fly gauges. https://www.dbalsa.com/accessories/scale_gauges.htm. My search indicated these were designed by Bob Nelitz.

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

While not the best photo this dash looks really nice, from an uncompleted build from too long ago. As I started building more scale like planes I realized the dash really didn't fit the plane, a Cub or Super Cub just needs 5 gauges to look great. Can't find any information about the company...

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

I had a set of those once, didn't look right just flush gluing to the dash panel so I thought I could chuck them up in the lathe and remove the back flange, first one when well, the rest went south! You have the hole in the plywood so you can drill holes in the dash panel and insert the gauges...

Scale 1/3 Scale Extra 330L Build.

There is such a variation from brand to brand on the big props it is tuff to say in my opinion. Several years ago I tested 4 or 5 different 26-10 props on a ZDZ80J, resulted from top to bottom were over 1000 rpm apart. Find one you like and stick with it.

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

My wife has given the go ahead for full bore work on the Champ, worked 3 months on the house, I have 3 months on the Champ. I plan to finish covering the left side stab and elevator, prepair the landing gear, cowl, and other aluminum parts for paint, paint those pieces, assemble and do a...

    Yippee! What the postman brought

Started collecting items for the next build, 30% Hostetler Chipmunk. Picked up the National Balsa Kit last season from a fellow flier. The graphics are from Kirby Graphics, real nice. Already had the plans, bought those in Toledo a few years ago. The Cowl, Canopy and Pants are on order from...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

More covering work today, started thinking about the cable passing through the elevator fabric and the layout of the holes. Decided the cable was too stiff for the size of the pulleys and the tension in the cable. You can see in the first photo how the wire along the trailing edge is bowed...

Scale Bud Nosen 1/4 Scale Cub?

You know, you sent it to me for $1.20, I put everything back with the same wrapping less the weight I cut off both axles, took it to the post office and the lady said $4.30 or whatever it was, told here I received it yesterday with $1.20 postage and she wouldn't bite, said due to thickness it...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

I'm using Ecofill to fill the weave rather than the thinned Ecobond that was used on the wings. Thinned Ecobond does a wonderful job filling the weave however it remains tacky forever so if there are any close clearances below the fabric you run the risk of the fabric sticking to the subsurface...
