Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

Put the first 18 ounce layer on this morning, took about 2 hours, that 18 ounce cloth really soaks up the resin, mixed 240 grams twice plus 110 grams. Next layer will go on 30 degrees to the first.

Yes I read that as well. That was the rule for ever before we learned how to baffle, my Champ has more intake area than exhaust area but it works fine. It's more about making the cool air flow over the cylinders than around them. Could you image the hole required for 3 times the entrance area...

    Scale BUSA Super Cub

Just finished reviewing the telemetry logs from yesterday and it appears the right cylinder is waking up. The temperature difference was up to 100 on the early flights and was below 70 on the final flight. The right side is getting hotter and the it seems the left cooled slightly. The right...

The firewall is tightly fit to inside of the cowl for the most part, it acts as the barrier between the high and low pressure zones. The air enters the high pressure side cowl through the openings, around the air cleaner opening and the oil cooler opening (I need to make an air cleaner dome...

.56 ounce, .75 ounce, 2 ounce, 4 ounce. and two layers of 7 1/2 ounce glass cloth are on. Three 18 ounce layers to go. I may need to order more resin! Another day or so I can remove the parting boards and flip it over.

Great day here in Indiana PA. Nobody is here, five flights so far. Left cylinder 280, right cylinder 220, still got some work to do. During landing the left side drops 245f

    Scale BUSA Super Cub

The firewall is the baffle between high pressure and low pressure. The high pressure side is exposed to the air inlets on the cowl. The low pressure sire exposed to the opening on the bottom of the cowl plus the cheeks on the side of the cowl. Air enters the cowl and passes the baffles to the...

I feel it is baffled well, using a similar technique on the Champ it runs very cool. It may simply be breaking in as you suggest, the first flights on the Champ were so short I would have not noted the problem.

Maiden flight today plus two more, had a dead stick on the maiden, this thing is a floater. I circled the runway from about 150" up flaps down dead stick , over shoot the runway through the parking lot into some high weeds no damage. The two guys that were watching thought I was crazy for...

Not going as fast as I would like but moving forward The heavy brush strokes in the tooling coat and the .56 ounce cloth didn't play well together so I waited until the epoxy was cured and sanded down the defects, pretty much sanded everything down. Put the 3/4 ounce cloth on the morning and...

Put the tooling coat on this morning. Using US Composites 635 thin epoxy thickened with carbon powder and colloidal silica. Mixed 60 grams of resin and 20 grams of hardener at a time, it took three batches to cover the fuselage. Next will be a .56 glass layer. Ordered 2 gallons of epoxy...

Woke up early this morning because I had a reason to get to work. Put on the final wax coat and clayed the parting boards to the plug. Sprayed on several light coats of PVA and 2 final wetter coats. Later today I will put the tooling coat on. It is greener shade than the photo depicts.

Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

Put the parting boards on today. Used melamine shelving boards for the parting boards. Found a damaged 8' x 12" board at Lowes and got it for $10, had to pay full price for the 48" x 24" board though. There are 7 coats of wax on the plug and three on the parting boards. Hope to get 8and 9 on...

Looks a lot like a Klingon warship in the air. I expected it to cloak any minute. It is impressive and unique but I didn't really care the way it looks while flying, but hey to each to their own.

No that was a gull wing Stinson aircraft, not sure what the model name or number. It was a large plane. The owner also flew a Moki radial powered Corsair with folding wings. Right before I left for home he flew the Corsair in formation with a large FA-18 Hornet, was rather nice show. How...

Now that flying season is coming to an end time to get back on this build. I have wet sanded the fuselage down to 2500 and hand polished with Maguire's compound. I have four coats of wax on the plug and just about ready to begin mounting the parting boards. In a few areas I wet sanded down...

Flight line at Fredericksburg on Friday. There was a real nice Champ at the opposite end. What a great field. Two runways, there is a pararell runway on the left side of the photo, bathrooms and shower facilities. Great weather as well. Met many nice folks there. I watched Merlyn Graves...
