Discussion The I’m going out flying thread 2018

Happy new years all. Technically this belongs in the 2017 thread since it occurred in 2017, but deep down inside I'm a rebel :D

Everyone I've talked to has no complaints about it, it has worked great thus far!

Did a culmination of work to the AJ Laser over the weekend and today. Got to work programming the X24 with its awesome AutoMatch function, did some work with my awesome new holographic decals from B&E Graphix, worked on tidying up the elevator connector situation, and finally wrapped it up with...

Tried to work on the airplane tonight but 46F is where I cross the line. Hands went numb and still haven't came back :oblong:

Come on Rob, we all know the gas engines that don't have a brand name on them are the best :mario-banana::banana-dance:

No fires, earthquakes, or heat to speak of down here. My ride in to work this morning was into the low 20's :eek:

Did some post-maiden flight(s) tweaking on the Laser tonight. Adjusted my throttle linkage with a new servo arm to hopefully cure my sensitive throttle problem, bolted up my White Rode tailwheel, slathered up some foamtac inside of the wheelpant I cracked the other night, and finally tightened...

Some on the deck funky business from this weekend :) Just need to iron out a couple little bugs and fix my throttle linkage.

Sounds like you might have the AJ Slick from 3DHS? :oblong: There is a cult following behind that airplane so I think you will love it :yesss:

The 105 is the only AJ airplane I have flown, but the 115 Laser is on my list next. The DA150 is the perfect match for the 115 Laser. Terry Wiles is a close friend of mine and he absolutely loves it, and is who convinced me to buy the 105 Laser.

Maiden went extremely well on the AJ Laser 230z! What a phenomenal flying airplane, can't wait to get more stick time on it. Today was completely blown out with 20mph wind.

Tidied up the Laser last night, just waiting on my mufflers now (hopefully they'll show up today). Wiring still a mess inside, but it'll do. Intakes enlarged as well. Before: After: Love this scheme.

Mustered up some energy to fight off this bug and worked on the airplane this afternoon. Should be ready for a maiden this weekend, waiting on mufflers to show up tomorrow.

I'll be using Maxima SL receivers since I can use up to 4 of them. I'll only be using 2 for now, mounted in 2 different locations.

Hi Rob, Unfortunately the X24 will only work with SL enabled Optima receivers (such as the Optima SL, or the Optima D (Optima D is too fragile for this application)). It won't work with Optima 6, 7 or 9. You can, however, use up to 4 Maxima SL receivers with the X24 to give you a huge amount of...

Two wing panels all ready to rock, working on the fuselage next. I stopped at this point for the night, tomorrow night I'll get everything hooked up and the X24 programmed for everything. Also working on putting snakeskin over all the wires :)

The dual stab tubes are nice, the front tube is only about 6" long and only slips into the stabs about 1.5". The XPS X24 is probably the greatest channel expansion device on the market right now: http://www.xtremepowersystems.net/proddetail.php?prod=XPS-X24D

Past couple of nights I've been getting the Laser airworthy. Right now I'm over halfway there, just need to install aileron servos/linkages, plumb the tank, install the J&A mufflers, clearance the cowl for the mufflers, install the XPS X24 and tidy up the wiring inside and she'll be ready :)
