    2014 Fly-Low-In Northeast 7/10 - 7/13

Total destruction combat. A nicely executed LG hold.

    2014 Fly-Low-In Northeast 7/10 - 7/13

I'm told this guy webmasters 3DRCForums when he isn't cooking or flying. ...speaking of websites, advance file upload doesn't work for me. Basic upload does work. Chrome, Windows 7.

    2014 Fly-Low-In Northeast 7/10 - 7/13

Thanks. I'll probably post a few in a week or so once I have a chance to go through them. The rest is available on request in high def jpeg or NEF (Nikon raw format).

    2014 Fly-Low-In Northeast 7/10 - 7/13

Today's photos - mostly as-is, to be cleaned up/edited/culled sometime next week. Lots of fun as usual.

    3DHS 70" Velox

It's difficult to fly precise, but not impossible. I actually use it to practice rolls, loops, etc. - you see any mistake you make, unlike e.g. Vyper. My lowest elevator rate is 20%, though.

71" AJ Slick Building, Flying, and Questions

I finally got interested enough to look at my Slick - 71", electric, about two years old. The areas where the pins/bolts go look to be balsa sheeting reinforced with basswood (or maybe harder balsa?). If glued properly, this should be enough, even for a 3kW Slick. However - if the person...

    3DHS 70" Velox

Update on my Velox.. I ended up with a Hyperion ZS-4025-16, AllERC had it on sale for something like $70 shipped. Electrically, it seems to be very close to my old Scorpion 4025-16, maybe slightly less efficient. Mechanically, there is a difference. the back of the can is supported by a large...

20". FWIW, it fits into a Subaru BRZ :-)

    3DHS 70" Velox

Glacier 2x4s3300mah. It's more than the battery, though. The motor is a few ounces less, the ESC, ICE-75, is lighter than the usual typical ICE-100, no pants, a light Rx battery in lieu of a BEC + wiring, etc. It's an older 68" Velox, though, AFAIK 70" airframe weights a bit more.

    3DHS 70" Velox

Well, the point of an 8s setup is to use a lighter motor/ESC. My Velox is close to 7lb AUW. It will probably gain an ounce or two now that I need to replace that Scorpion, but it will still be well under 8lb. A 4325 on Velox only makes sense when you are using 6s - need a large motor to handle...

    A 70" power setup: Hyperion 4035-299, ICE 100

No, doesn't run hot. I've set up baffles to direct the air to the motor, though. two 4s3300mah in series, for a total of 8s3300mah. About 8 minutes. The plane can take 8s4000 mah easily, I just happen to have a lot of 3300s. I've an 18x8 Xoar I can sell, but you probably want an 18x10 or a...

    3DHS 70" Velox

As far as equipment wars go, I'm a libertarian and a pacifist. OTOH, I hate it when marketing wins over engineering. I'm, after all, an engineer.

    3DHS 70" Velox

rcdude has it at $120. I think he ships for free over $100. Scorpions were okay motors, but the spectacular specs were mostly caused by very aggressive rating for current, power, etc. They also cut the corners with things like bearings, structural rigidity, etc. The savings were applied towards...

    3DHS 70" Velox

The prices seem to be almost back to normal. I'm not sure I want to get another one, though. There are better options now.

    3DHS 70" Velox

My Scorpion 4025-16 after two years in my Velox. I suppose this means I'm finally getting comfortable with Velox. Yes, Velox is okay.

    65" Vyper Discussion Thread

The motor in my Velox self-destructed today, so I am likely to steal the one currently in my 65" Vyper. That brings up a question whether I want to keep the Vyper. It's a great plane, but I find myself not flying it all that much. Any local (local is defined as within 50-100 miles from ZIP...

Discussion Connectors; ESC to Battery. What Are You Using And Why?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Andersen Power Poles yet. I use XT60 for smaller batteries, 5.5 PolyMax bullets for 4+s, 3000+mah. That makes it easier to connect the batteries in series. I use pieces of 10/9mm plastic tubing to protect the exposed bullet. If I were to start from scratch...

    A 70" power setup: Hyperion 4035-299, ICE 100

For sale is an 8s setup for a 70" size plane. The same setup works great in my 3DHS 71" Slick. I had this one in my 65" Vyper for a few months, but I really prefer a lighter setup on that plane, even if it means less power. Both the motor and the ESC are about 20 flights old, excellent...
