Discussion The I’m Going/Went Flying Thread

The build was a monstrous ordeal but the builder generally built enormous planes.

Scale Nelitz 1/3 scale Cub build

Watching football and piddling around on the Cub. Transferring the aileron connectors to the better setup. I will leave the crimp loose until later in the build.

Discussion The I’m Going/Went Flying Thread

Another long afternoon of flying today. Loving the cooler weather…. Several tanks of fuel were burned just working on approaches and touch and goes. My approaches were way off, I just never knew until recently the club president and I began working together.

Standard Pilot RC Yak landing gear. I’ve had 3 Pilot Yaks over the years. Interesting question though as the last couple of years I have went through several props. Mostly my landing skills but you have a good point. I MISS the SD Hobbies forward swept landing gear.

    What beer ya drinking tonight?

My favorite IPA is Jekyll Brewing ‘Hop Dang Diggity’. I was at a new brewery recently “Hyde Brewing’ and was told the owner was pushed out at Jekyll, ergo Hyde Brewing. The only non hazy IPA was ‘Modern West Coast IPA’ and I consider it a standard(ish) IPA. The food however was fantastic...

Yak is rebuilt and batteries are charging. Heat/cold/rain/business, so many obstacles get in the way of flying, trying to take advantage of the perfect weather.

More shop work. A minor accident with my yak left me with the wooden cowl ring to repair and a box tape canopy repair. Zero structural damage so this plane flies again soon. Hysol is a wonderful thing.

One of my machines (hydrojetter) was somehow missing a knob. I didn’t bother asking any employees as I saw an opportunity to make one. I didn’t take any photos while I was turning on the lathe but the results are nice.

Discussion The I’m Going/Went Flying Thread

I’ve had a little 20cc Carbon Cub unused/taking up space in my trailer for a couple of years. Underpowered plus extra setup time so I only flew it a few times. It was close to being unloaded and abandoned at my shop but I ended up giving it away today. Many many years ago in my .60 size plane...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Many years ago I was flying a trainer during a hurricane (Andrew?) and I was able to slow it to a complete stop in the wind. It was amazingly fun. After a couple of tanks of fuel I started letting the plane drift backwards in the wind. It was bizarre, almost surreal watching the plane fly...
