I'm not doing it. I deal with the FAA every day of my life, the reason I fly RC is because up until now if you followed the rules set forth by the AMA you didn't have to deal with the FAA.

I see every day how the FAA works, right now the fee is $5 once every 3 years... When the Feds start to figure out that 90% of modelers have MULTIPLE airplanes it will turn into $5 per airframe, and then it will be $10 per airplane because they have to pay the extra people to do the paperwork, then it will be $30 because of administrative fees.

They did this with full scale aircraft. At first it was $50 an airplane, and when they realized that not many people have more than one airplane it turned into $100PER SEAT. So someone that had a Cessna 172 went from a $50 registration yearly to $400.

Why do you think you have to register EACH of your cars and not just the driver? Because the government can get more money.

Also, how are they going to enforce it? Especially when 99% of the people causing the problem don't give 2 sh*ts about rules anyway. All this is, is a money grab. They can't enforce it and it is going to end up wasting money.. But then again, wasting money is what the government is best at.

On a moral front, I don't like the fact that the FAA has stuck their middle fingers up at congress. The special rule for model aviation in the FAA MRA was pretty straight forward, if it isn't being flown for profit the FAA cant regulate RC. So the FAA tried to re-define what constitutes an aircraft by stating that "any man made object that flies is an aircraft", which means according to the FAA a kite is an aircraft.

Here's the funny thing, my niece has a 4 foot Estes foam glider with a bolt that we put in the nose for balas. I put it on the scale earlier and guess what... 14oz..... So I guess my niece has to register with the FAA before she's able to fly it.

THE FAA DOES NOT SUPERSEDE CONGRESS

I would guess that soon you will have to have an FAA number to sign up for AMA. Just a guess.

Things will be fairly convoluted for new members when we need to tell them they need to get an FAA number to give to the AMA where they'll get their AMA number they need to put on their club application.

Damn I'm hungry
As much as this makes my blood boil it will only make matters harder for myself if I do not register so I'll do it while it is free.

I have known this was coming all along. It's what our society is about......Money. And our government is our society now so get used to it. You don't have to like it though. Biggest pile of :steamer: I've seen from capitol hill to date.

Have to agree with ya there brother. If the government can make a buck, they are going to find a way to bend you over for it. Seriously folks...I do fully understand what the FAA is "saying" this registration is for. And I do get "it" why it's being done. But truth be known, it is just another way for "Big Brother" to keep an eye on every one of us. Seriously think the Muslims are going to register a drone? Ummm, noooo....!!! Seriously think "ANY ONE" coming into this country that means harm and mayhem is going to register? Umm, think again. Not so much. And to that...all them crap birds that created all this mess for all us true rc enthusists, are they gonna register? Yeah, ok....and I got some ocean front property in Arizona too. Personally, I think it is all a huge pile of B.S. But the bottom line is this: Am I going to register? Absolutely. My club will probably make it a rule that it be done. Plus, I don't want to be "one" of the ones that continues to make things bad for us. When the gov-a-mint decides they's gonna git ya, Not much you can do about it.

"Sign za paper old man".

I don't like the idea of the FAA putting their nose in our hobby, but I will register. Just like someone on GiantScaleNews said police could have a field day writing tickets on this law. What I really think should happen is any company or store selling drones, quads or whatever you want to call the should have to register them at point of sell.---Smitty

This is exactly how it will go down. The gov't will offer the AMA a deal or 2 then the AMA will start the requirement to earn the rights to the deal. Federal highway money is the best example.
