F-4D Phantom II (Freewing EDF jet)

I have filmed several turbine F-4 Phantoms. It's an iconic jet and have always wanted to try flying one but a turbine version is well out of my reach. Cue to Freewing F-4D Phantom II. Looks like the real thing after 15 minutes of assembly and applying the decals. Dropped in my receiver and a 6S5000 flight pack and I was ready to go.

Yes they do. Learning jet flying with the Avanti S has been great fun. I have been eyeballing that F-4 as well. Put a lot of JP-5 in them and then watched them get slung off the deck of the FID.

Two if the three Avanti's in the club of died from Pilot error. One flew his right into the ground last Sunday, and the other guys error was picking the wrong guy to do the first flight for him. He chose poorly.

I have the book about the fire, "Sailors To The End" but I haven't read it yet.

I never understood why some let others do the "Maiden"?. All that "Fun & Excitement" you deny yourself .

All in all the Avanti S is a sweet flying EDF and glides really well. Now it does zip along and can get real small rather quickly and orientation can be easily lost. But I NEVER do stupid stuff like that .

Even to this very day ALL assigned personnel must be "trained" in fire fighting on all Navy ships. Because of the fire on USS Forrestal CV-59.

I like 'em "BIG"!
One of the gents at our field has a brand new A10. Dang that thing is nice. I am sooo sooo impressed on how well they are built. You touch it and it feels so solid. He was a little nervous so he didn't maiden it. I offered....LOL.... but I am with Kelly on this. Why allow someone else to get the pleasure, the thrill, the nervous knee knocking jitters, the pure terror and fear...dang that is good stuff to let you know your heart is still beating... why let someone else do this? After all, it's "MY" plane and if it goes in, "I"...am gonna be the one to do it. LOL

Of course I will have to paint mine once I get it to look like one of the squadrons assigned while I was aboard ( VF 74 ).
