Discussion Props for Hacker A50-12L on 6s

Ok e-power guru's, I have a 72" , 9.2lb airframe (MSX) that I need to prop. I'm using a Hacker A50-12L V1 that I had on the shelf along with a Castle Ice 100, and A123 for the Rx/servos. I'm going to use my 6s-5000mAh GensAce 30c Lipos that I use on my Velox. I was going to order some 19x8's or 20x6 props, but I've read that the recommended prop for the A50-12L is a 19x10 or 20x10. I have a few questions:

1. Why the 10 pitch, wouldn't a 8 pitch give you more pull for 3D, and the 10 pitch more speed?
2. Will the 20x10 run the chance of overheating the A50-12L?
3. Any idea what the amp draw would be for these sizes/setup? Will the Ice 100 ESC be enough?
4. Should I stay with Xoar PNJ, or is there a cheaper alternative prop with about the same performance/weight for e-flight?

I'd actually pose the question to Joe Smith in his forum as well, I believe he is pretty familiar with the Hacker motors.

MY opinion:

The Caslte Ice 100 should be right near it's amp limit on 6s... You're likely going to be in the 2000-2250w range depending on which prop you use, and on 6s, that is 85-95amps.
The 10 pitch does give more speed, which is fun for high energy 3D. If you follow Ben Fisher's recommendations from the 3dhs podcast a few months ago, he recommends spliting the length in pitch... so 20x10 would be perfect. My preferred electric prop on a 7x" airplane is the 19x10 or 20x10.
As for overheating, it's possible, but that is why all these motor manufacturers recommend "strict throttle managment" for 3D flying.

Thanks Gyro for the response, I'll have to go back and watch the 3dhs podcasts. I asked the question on the Addicts forum as well and it looks like 19 or 20x10 is the prop everyone likes, so I'll buy both and try them out. I was going to go 8s to lower the amp draw, but everything I've read suggest the A50-12L is better on 6s. Sorry about the "anyone" post, I'm wanting to order props today, and was a little late in posting the question. So as far as 10 pitch vs. 8 pitch, based on your response, 10 pitch would be better for high energy 3D (tumbles, knife edge spins, etc.), and 8 pitch would be better for hovering and harriers? DG

yeah, try all three props (19x10, 20x8, 20x10) if you have weaker packs, the 19x10 or 20x8 will be great. if you are lacking power move up to the 20x10 or a 20x11

Plugging your setup into the flight calculator on Castle's site, I get the following results on a fully charged battery:

20x10 - ** no go ** (106 Amps, motor overheat, motor over power limit)
19x8 - motor just slightly over power limit (limit 1650w, calculated value 1726w)

Once the pack drops slightly, the 19x8 setup is good to go. It predicts 7 minutes of mixed flight time. Your results might be a bit better with the Xoar prop, as they are a bit more efficient than the generic model in the calculator.

20x10 xoar on my 70 slick with the same setup. the motor is not very efficient unfortunately, but the ice 100 works.. I wansnt getting over 92-95a on the ground. 19x10 is pretty weak on that motor on 6s imo...

Running 18-8 Xoar on 6s, never got over 75 amps on the ICE 100 lite. Going to go APC 20/10 and should push the ammps up- using castler BEC for safety on that prop. A50-12L on 10lb airframe Heavy because converted Gasser) -built my own motorbox

19x10 will work perfectly for A50-12L. 20x10 it gets to hot and 19x8 you are loosing power.

I use the 19x10 with the A50-12L because that is what Joe Smith reccommended to me. He said you COULD use the 20x10 but, like I said before, the motor gets really warm.

it depends on the strength of the battery. weak packs will need a 20x10 to get good power. a solid pack with a 19x10 is perfect
