I was told that each servo needs it's own power source.

the rx is the power source. I have only read the last couple pages, so I don't want to confuse you from what you have been told. And I guess I'm confused by "each servo needs it's own power source"

A friend of mine setup his Beast on a DX7 with 2 smart fly equilizer 2s. I had a problem with mine as the servos connectors are not secured with the board in any meaningful way and my buddy also had them slip out. If you have not purchased the power safe RX, you could use a power system from smart fly that does both servo matching and power distribution and use something more basic like a AR8000.

In the end I did what Gary said in the first place and got a better radio. I don't think there is anything wrong with the DX-9 and I am not sure if I would consider any feature in the 18 much better than the 9, especially for twice the price, with a 100cc airplane being the biggest plane you will have. I have a 18QQ, but I also thought I was going to do a 150cc plane last winter.

I did have a DX-8, and I did mix 4 ailerons on my old H9 extra within the radio and matched the two elevator halves. My issue was when the servo plugs came out, I had no elevator.
