Holy cow!!!! What a rough day! Just said good bye to my daughter, son in law and 3 grandkids. They drove out here from Arizona and now have another 20 hour drive in front of them. Loved seeing them...

Mike - How old is the Avatar photo? You don't look near old enough to have a single grandkid. Let alone 3 from the same daughter!

Well, I left the house this morning in my pickup, loaded with airplanes looking for a good time!! Where we fly is on a private airstrip about 10 miles from my house up on top of the plateau. I started up the hill everything was fine........ I got about 3/4 the way up the hill and I started loosing power..... slower and slower I went. Narrow two lane highway at this point.... The truck died on a mostly level spot.... Looked at the gauges and it was a bit warm, not hot yet but warmer than normal, I thought I could get to the top of the hill and coast a ways.... re started the truck, I made it another mile very slow with the temp climbing.... then bang, and a big cloud of steam and the engine locked up..... I really couldn't get mad, it is a 96 3/4 ton 4x4 heavy duty truck and I have about 236,000 miles on it and it has served me well over the years. But here I sit in the middle of the narrow two lane road with a truck full of airplanes, I was NOT going to leave it there. I sat there with my flashers on, I knew that my flying buddies would be along fairly soon. Sure enough one came by sooooo we towed it the last 3 miles to the flying site and I got to fly. At the end of the flying I loaded it back up and had one of my buddies tow me to the top of the hill and I coasted the truck down the 6 miles to my drive way and I was able to coast in an park it. So all is good? No...... I have to finish rebuilding the transmission for my wife's Tahoe and get her back on the road...... So my 66 GMC Flatbed truck just became our main vehicle....... On top of that when I walked in the house my wife informed me that the kitchen sink was clogged hard..... and it was...... got it unclogged and I am hoping that my week goes better!! At least I got to fly!!!!!

Bipe - How do I respond to this? Glad you got to fly today! :bouncy: Sorry the truck went south! It is awesome you can use gravity to get home. :thumbup: Sorry the wife's vehicle is on the fritz too. :facepalm: Be glad you have the '66 as a backup vehicle. :ecstatic: Was the sink clogged as a result of an awesome dinner the Mrs. made? ompom:

So here is my weekend story. Flew all day Saturday. Great day! Last night the wife asks if I will setup the simulator so she can "practice". So I set it up and she goes through several airplanes until she finds one that flies the way she likes. B-25 mind you. She takes off and does several orbits and honestly does quite well. I get up this morning and get ready to head to the field, "Can I go and fly one of your planes?" Sure! I toss in my foam Carbon Z Cub. We get to the field and setup. A buddy and I move the Cub from my DX8 to the DX9 and then set it up so it works as a wireless buddy box. I take the plane off and push the button so she has control. She does several orbits and overall does a really good job for someone who has NEVER flown a real model before. But wait there is more. The guys are coming over and congratulating her and making small talk. One of the guys asks about her training and stuff and when she tells him she flew the B-25 on the simulator and loves the way that airplane flies he says. "I have one in the attic wrapped in garbage bags." You can HAVE it if you want it. HAVE it! Free! WTF!? Must be nice to be a good looking blonde even if you are in your late 50s. This is the same woman that suggested last week that I buy a 60cc Corsair. How in the world did I get so lucky?

Lucky man indeed! Which cub/setup is that? Kind of searching for the right cub myself....

Jakeg - When I got back into the hobby after a 25+ year hiatus, I bought the E-Flite Carbon Z Cub. 84" wingspan, takes a 6S battery, flaps, the AS3X receiver and so on. The cub has been flawless except for the music wire landing gear. I replaced that with the Robart 1/5 scale gear and some light 6" Kavan wheels. The plane is a joy to fly even in the wind and makes a really good trainer. In fact, the buddy that I mentioned in my story has one to teach his two boys how to fly.

Thanks for the info, I have heard great things about that cub. The robart gear and tires look great! I will have to look more into that one, I have the 3dhs Bigfoot on gas with the same Kavan wheels, but the Carbon Z may be a good choice to start teaching my 4 and 6 year old daughters. How many mah are the packs? I have a few already that may work.

I think it calls for 3500 packs as a minimum. I bought some 5000s packs from a guy that was getting out of heli flying so that is what I am using. How do you like the Bigfoot? I have wanted that plane for months now but it has been out of stock and I have seen some negative write-ups about it on the forums.

I just read up a bit on it, and the specs say 3200mah, and I happen to have some 3300, and 4500 packs. As for the Bigfoot, I am starting to really love it. Funny story but I actually got it at the first release probably 2 years ago now. I built 95% of it, then hung it up in my garage. I listed it for sale a few times and no takers, so I finished it. During the finishing stage I had some minor issues with the windows and struts and a few other little minor things that made it seem a little rushed to production. About a month or so ago I flew it, and for the first 8-10 flights I concentrated on getting the new OSGT33 to run reliably (which it was fairly easy other than it starts backwards every time below half throttle). During the first couple flights, the struts fell off repeatedly, and every window came out on different flights. The door hatch also came out and the tail wheel assembly is junk. So, I found a great glue for the windows, screwed the door shut (relocated easy access items to the hatch), and removed the struts completely after several reports of folks not using them. Now I have 5 or 6 flights on it, with everything holding and the motor running great. The flaps are large and drop straight down which is a blast. I can chop the throttle and dive it at well above a 45 degrree angle and land in a very short distance. I call autorotations as it feels very similar when I do them with my helis and it also takes off in probably less than 3 feet of rollout. It hovers, and harriers and I have done some fairly violent tumbles with it and the wings hold great. Assembly is as quick as any 3d plane with just the 2 wing bolts and no struts. It truly flies like a 3D cub. It will tip stall but you really have to try to get it to. Several guys at the field are now waiting for them to come back in stock. It really has turned into a very fun plane. Touch and goes are awesome and with the long tail and large surfaces it never wants to ground loop like traditional cubs. I am starting to really love it!
