Throttle servo?

I have been a fan of using a very good servo on throttle. On my Sukhoi I use a JR8911 for throttle. Not really for the torque or speed but mostly because it is HV and when you get into HV there is little difference in price on servo's to make that much difference. Plus for the minimal extra cost of a good throttle servo I feel it is the best way to go about it in the long run. I would hate to be out of town at a contest to only not be able to fly because I cheaped out on throttle servo. I was looking at some cheaper HV servo's with nylon gears but that really worried me so I am sticking with metal. But I cannot say if nylon would be good or bad due to lack of experience on nylon gears and gas throttle.

I have used Futaba 9157s or bls 157s. Never had a failure I know guys that have used the equivalents and never had a failure. Anything over 50cc gets all metal geared servos. More important is how precise your servo is. Speed isn't as important because the lag of the engine to spool up.

I'm in on the Hitec HS 5665. Because all my systems are set up HV, I see no point in regulating a servo. So all my gas pedals are using the 5665's. Extra wiring, extra components that can fail and besides, a good quality servo on the throttle is just as important due to vibration and abuse as any other surface servo. Glow or circle burning planes? Yeah, probably not so much.... I've not had one failed servo thankfully. Keep it simple.

I run a 7955 on my 104 and 5665 on the rest of my smaller setups.

When people ask why I put a hundred dollar servo somewhere a 20 dollar would be fine. I tell them "because you're here and your safety is worth the extra investment."

I don't get any enjoyment putting others at risk of injury or worse.

Good for you. I mean that too. The questions I am usually asked though is: "Why do you have to use such an expensive prop?" "I can buy two planes for the price of one of your props". I keep tellin' 'em, they don't make "FOAM" props.
