I like 'em "BIG"!
Well for what it is worth, I've enjoyed the site and the friends I have made. One day I hope to meet and shake each and every one of you's hands. I am sorry to see the site turned off, but I also understand the depth and gravity of the situation. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks for all the people that I have gotten to know and the chuckles we've shared.

Keep 'em flyin' boys....

I hate to be "that guy" but this seriously p*sses me off. Didn't GSN take over 3DRC forums just a couple months ago? So now if we don't want to bombarded with non RC related ads (RCU), quadcopters (RCG) or flying pieces of hot glued foam (FLITETEST) we have to crawl back to FG with our tail between our legs.

Again, sorry to be the drama guy but just really ticked off.

I really do enjoy the site, and even more so the people that are here on it.

no ****, it's a bummer for me too.

since the advertisers are gone I can speak my mind finally. the industry is screwed up, seriously. Vendors have so many of you guys asking for discounts, offering to do whatever they ask, wear shirts at events and they barely give you anything for your time. Then when a guy like me comes offering advertising and promotional opportunities they say no thank you because they know it's cheaper to go with "sponsored" pilots that'll do it all for much less.

so the communities like GSN languish or take to lying about traffic. does anyone realize how easy it is to lie about traffic whether it's a forums site, youtube, facebook groups, twitter followers, etc? it's easy and isn't that expensive either! i've never done it but I can't imagine how FG has thousands of users flowing through the site at any given time, it makes no sense.

then there's facebook, don't even get me started on how facebook has decimated forums while offering a far inferior platform and overall user experience.

i've tried to compete and the response has been "meh!". i rolled the dice and paid a lot more for 3DRCF than it was worth, Mike was lucky I rolled up with cash when I did because I think he was ready to punch out as well!

but again, the response from the vendor community was practically zero so i'm pulling the plug. i can't be the guy that just keeps going when it's past time to move on. I love this hobby too and it sucks being in this situation where i'm growing bitter about it. for what it's worth, Aeroworks, that freakin' Aeroworks owes me over $400 for advertising from the first four months of the year when their banner ad kept running but they didn't cancel it. I reduced it to try to get them to pay it and Rocco decided to blow me off.

running the site is a lot of fun for me but attending events and keeping everything fresh is a big commitment in time and money. so while vendors have their sponsored pilots out there getting them all sorts of practically free advertising, i'm paying out of pocket to go places and cover events. I've finally said enough is enough. the vendors can go deal with FG or wherever, not my problem anymore.

to you guys, i love the community here but it is what it is, as much as it sucks, it is what it is.

maybe there's a white knight coming but maybe not.

for what it's worth, i'm not perfect, i could have been a better admin and it would have helped the site but that's water under the bridge. we got off to a bad start and decisions I made didn't help the situation. by the time i recognized the need to make major changes it was probably too late.

I can only imagine how many hours and $$$ you've poured into this site to make it a first class venture. I've been with you from the start and really seen it take off to become a real competitor in the RC forum space. From what started as a reaction to @SleepyC 's departure from another site to where it is today, you've gone a large way. To have an advertiser stick you with an unpaid bill is so incredibly short-sighted on their part. Thanks for the effort you made. Best wishes in future endeavors.

Sorry to hear the news Bart, I really enjoyed the content that was posted here by both you and others. As someone who's been "inside" the R/C industry for a number of years I know the struggles this market can provide, it is even harder when an advertiser screws you out of money that was owed to you. Unfortunately you're not the first person that particular person has screwed over and I'm sure wont be the last, biggest wolf in sheep's clothing I've ever seen if you ask me.

I hope everyone can find a new home, there's a lot of good people here! Maybe its time Joe Hunt steps in and revives DOD, now THAT would at least be something good out of a bad situation.

Thanks for all that you've done sir!

It is the behind the scenes stuff that "joe public" rarely is aware of. Years ago anyone that started anything much considered it the "long haul" however in today's world the major constant is change and the challenge is adaptating to that change.

I always thought in my lifetime that long term was the key and I have had some hard lessons to learn by not changing. I am in an industry where I have to deal with change all the time and I have learned much and how to face the challenges head on. Do I agree with the changes? Quite often I do not and maybe that is the "old school" in me.

I think Bart made the best decision he could in light of his situation and I respect it. As rcbobp posted "hours and $$$" are poured into any type of work such as this. Web site work is a time thief and can reek havoc on one's life and family.
