3DHS 71" Slick (gas) with OS GT33

I'm (finally) assembling my 3DHS 71" Slick (gasser) with an OS GT33 and I figured I might as well do a build log on it. The guys on the 71" Slick discussion thread agreed with me, so here we go.

Well, I've started the build and collected a fair number of pictures so far. Right now I'm waiting on engine standoffs, which Craig at customstandoffs.com has put in the mail just today, I think. I figured this was a good time to start uploading some of the pictures...

The basic build procedure from 3DHS was followed (for the most part)...here are the main two procedureal references used for this build:

3DHS 70" Slick Build Manual:

3DHS DLE-30 Installation Guide: http://www.3dhobbyshop.com/assets/images/DLE30_w_REAR_CARB_INSTALLATION.pdf

Going back to the very beginning, this is how the box looked when it arrived:

Fortunately, the awesome double boxing saves the day!
(absolutely no damage to the airframe) :D

Motor choice: I originally purchased this motor (Mintor 33) for the airframe, but other owners reported that there were quality issues with this engine so I decided not to install it.

Ultimately, Mintor is making good on their quality issues and stands to regroup from last year's issues, but this all happened after I had made my decision to go another route.

Instead I obtained this motor (OS GT33) for the build:

And I also got a few props in the deal!

The GT33 has a woodruff key which is a slippery little bit of metal! But I got it back together.

Next step was the wheels...ran into a problem here that I've heard others have had as well...the wheel holes are not round and true!

As you rotate the wheel on the axle, you can see it is out of round and actually rubs on the wheel pant as it rotates.

this was pretty frustrating...but I found a solution at my wonderful LHS:

These rotate perfectly and this was a simple solution to the problem. These are also slightly bigger (1/4") than the stock wheels, which is good since I fly off a grass field.

Nice "hop up"
I'm sure the added diameter will help on the grass field.
