Pre-Oiling new engine.

Hi all.

With the flying season fast approaching I'm getting my PAU Extra ready to maiden. The DA 120 in it is new, never been run but has been sitting either in the box or installed on the airframe for the last 18 or so months. I'm wondering if it would be a smart idea to pre-oil the cylinders, and pull the carb / reed block off and do the same to the rod bearings/bushings before cranking it up for the first time.

Thanks.

Never heard of anyone doing that. I think you would run more of a chance of creating an air leak, causing problems, than anything else if you took it apart.

It'd just flip it over, drop some gas/oil mix down the open carb, spin it with out plugs in it. Mount it, fly it!

I wouldn't pre oil a DA as they are all run at the factory and should have plenty of oil residue in them, even after a long period of storage. But the Chinese engines are another story! I've had several that were very dry in the piston, sleeve and ring area and wouldn't think of running one w/o pre oiling it. The rod bearings and piston gets a liberal dose of out of the bottle lube.

Car engines get pre-oiled during assembly because it takes a while for the oil to circulate. Two stroke engines the oil is in the gas and gets to where it needs to be instantly.

Not an issue.

Thanks guys. I'll crank it up as is, was just a bit concerned about it siting for such a long time without running and not having any fresh oil in it.

I still use after run oil in the engine, but the type i use is pneumatic air tool oil looks like red trainee oil but for air tools , just a couple of drops and turn over the engine . It does provide extra lubrication on those bearings and needle bearings and burns off quickly during start up.
When did up purchase your DA 120 ? Eighteen months or more ago ?
I know everyone has their opion , this is mine .:oblong:

I have a few cans of bombardier storage lube around at all times for my jetskis. If my plane engines are sitting around I usually spray inside the cylinders and into the transfer ports. Don't know if it does any good or not but it makes me feel good doing it.

Looks like a fogging oil used for winterizing engines and repels water :I_agree: Didn't know it was out there good product
