I've posted links to build threads (Pre GSN only) on a couple sites only because it would take tons of time to recreate here and the information already out there helps the GSN community. Of course any of my future builds/assemblies etc are going to be here.

So are you saying stop that?

@Terryscustom nailed it regarding sponsored pilots. I think there are only a handful of pilots that get everything free most are team pilots that get discounts for several reasons. Some might be because they buy a lot and post how to use or what the advantage may be to using it. Now there are the sponsored/team pilots that do nothing but fly great and never interact on quality discussions on the forums. Those pilots I have no interest in because they mean nothing to me. I can watch them on video any day. Now the ones that answer questions and interact helpfully with others only serve to help the site period. They bring quality information whether or not a company they use is an advertiser on the site and that's how a site gets built up.

I get paid sometimes to build planes and I could keep all my helpful knowledge to myself but I (like Terry) REALLY enjoy helping others as much as I like to learn from others.

Somehow I feel this thread is a slap in the face because not enough money was made by the site through lack of advertises. The quality of a site will dictate the number of businesses that will advertise on it and in the big picture this thread to me just possibly turned away future advertisers.

@Terryscustom did the most detailed time consuming thread on a start to finish build of the Viper. A gift if you will to the RC giant scale world. Not everything installed on the plane was an advertiser on the site. The work put into posting the step by step build leads to LOTS of PM's and emails for the OG poster. All this takes time and energy and much of it is during business hours so it effects their business also. And do I dare say it? Some of the questions can just be daunting like " which way does the screw turn?" The poster gets nothing monetary from this but the site owner gets quality content that he will possibly make money on with advertising. Cause with out the quality content you have nothing............ Good luck with that.

I think Bartman was mainly talking about links to the other dbag forum sites. As far as sponsored guys posting stuff he said he thought it was odd but said it was ok. I think someone took it out of context.

This is what I gathered from the original post, that they want to keep traffic to some of the other forum-based websites down to a minimum, if not eliminate it entirely.

i'm fine with people posting build threads! of course I'm ok with that! i said it was odd that so many people are affiliated with manufacturers or vendors, considering the community is relatively small it means a lot of the activity is sponsored pilots promoting stuff to other sponsored pilots.
Terry pointed out that most of the pilots representing companies are not fully sponsored but are given discounts or other perks in order to get their message out and I get it.

there are other sites that prohibit any commercial posts because there's a tendency for shops to use posts and other activity to promote their stuff instead of buying a banner ad. at some point that's got to be addressed and I'll take it up via the vendor list I keep for communicating with them directly. so far we've let anything go but we can't do that forever.

This forum is like a heaven for good guys. I think bartman means that for example...a member lists a plane on the classifieds, then says go to f.g to see my build on it. That is annoying. Or if someone has a modification question and someone posts a link to a thread from rcg. That is just my take on it.

thank you! that's almost all of it. the fact that it blew up in my face shows how difficult it is to discuss without sounding like a d-bag myself.

That is clear and to the point. Makes perfect sense. I love this site and it's content. The original post may have been a little unclear about its intentions. This helps clear it up.

you know what's also weird? there are so many sponsored pilots you guys are all promoting stuff to each other! i don't quite get that one but feel free to post your content. if nobody advertises then we'll eventually run out of steam and the manufacturers will have to find someplace else to promote their stuff. i dread the thought of facebook being the place to go. ever notice that facebook groups and posts don't generate google search results? so for all of that activity none of it shows up in google, it's like a fart in a windstorm but that's where a lot of people invest their energy, go figure. at least here there's a permanent record so it builds over time and becomes a long term resource for everyone.

oh well, enough pondering the forces of the universe for one night. i did happen to get the engine installed and the interior of the World Super Cub moving along so at least it's progressing even if it is a little slow. and I found a Hangar 9 27% Cap for $100 but I'm trying hard to ignore it. :)

Just an FYI I was not referring to the original post. Post #6 is what I am referring too.
