Yep... it is painfully obvious at this point the FAA has given the AMA a deaf ear and the finger... not sure what the AMA thinks they can accomplish at this point, beyond damage control...

After reading the AMA blogspot I asked myself this.
If the FAA wins and everyone has to register their model aircraft regardless of airplane Or Drone. what need would we have for the AMA at that point? why would anyone in their right mind pay the AMA and the FAA in the same year for the same thing. the AMA offers insurance you say? people we are talking about the government here, please do not be so naive as to think that the AMA insurance will be sufficient overtime.

EXACTLY! They have failed at what we pay them for. Nobody has answered what they do for our clubs either. Dump them. Especially if you have private land.

I'm curious as to how many members understand how the AMA insurance Works.
if you are a homeowner not very useful because you are required to file with your homeowners insurance first and it's only a liability it does not cover your loss of your airplane.
if you are not a homeowner and do not have homeowners insurance then it is a great bargain for these people it covers 100% of the damages, but still it is a liability it will not replace your airplane.
you are only covered if you are flying at your AMA covered field so if you go to the local park or outside your local business and smash into a car you're SOL

I will stay in the AMA because to the best of my knowledge there isn't a club in this area that will let you fly there without an AMA card.

Not only does the AMA provide members with insurance, it also provides it for the site owner. Weather it's secondary or not, it makes it a lot easier to find a site if you can provide the owner with some proof of insurance.

Have they let us down on this? You bet. Have they done a lot for the hobby in the past? They sure have.

well , well, well, you were RIGHT till your last paragraph......AMA Chartered clubs have insurance thru their membership, If the owner of the land requires it, the AMA, will give that landowner a certificate of insurance... but the coverage comes from the individual members... homeowners first.....
Your Membership to the AMA covers you WHEREVER you fly, as long it is legal to fly there and you adhere to the AMA's safety code.
THERE is ONLY 1 AMA field in the whole USA... that is in Muncie IN. The flying site beside the AMA headquarters that the AMA owns.
If your local park allows RC... AMA covers you...... If you fly in your back yard, AMA covers you,
If I were you, I would do some reading before you school others on "how the AMA's insurance works"
