You guys can do as you choose but I will not be complying because according to "PUBLIC LAW 112–95—FEB. 14, 2012" " SEC. 336. SPECIAL RULE FOR MODEL AIRCRAFT" , as long as flown under the listed parameters I am exempt. There are no and's. if's, or but's, as long as one abides by the parameters.

I voted no, but looks like ama is going to assist faa with signing up ama members. Streamline it, possibly use your ama# for your reg.#

in other words, AMA is going to try to protect their turf, use this to reinforce their position as the only group to represent the hobby, and maybe give up the fight that hobbyists should be exempt.

I'd prefer to not get this impression from what I'm reading here and elsewhere but it's how it's looking to me.

In the header on this it states that the date is 2011 through 2014. Does this mean that in 2014 it expired? Or is that the timeline that the FAA has to comply with the ruling?

"Sign za paper old man".
You almost made me choke on a cookie!:lol2:
The Cheech and Chong reference was a nice touch. Da veheel ver is da veheel!

Your point about bad guys registering is right on. That will work as good as on of these does to stop gun violence.

Sadly Bart it's looking that way to me also. The only thing I can find where ama is doing anything about stopping this registration crap is a Petition they filed last year http://amablog.modelaircraft.org/am...etition-for-review-of-faas-interpretive-rule/
Everything else that I've found is nothing more than ama rolling over, and helping the FAA with this BS, and getting all ama members signed up as quickly as possible. It's as if ama is supporting the registration 100%

The timeline is for appropriation of funds for the FAA to comply with the legislation.

This rule was set forth by the FAA and pretty much says it all. Am I reading it incorrectly?

Public law 112-95 -Feb.14,2012 was set by congress, it is a federal law. Here is an address to the link for a PDF copy, http://r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0LEVwpwaHBWcZQAOdNXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTEybGNsYmY5BGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMyBHZ0aWQDQjEzMjVfMQRzZWMDc3I-/RV=2/RE=1450236145/RO=10/RU=http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/PLAW-112publ95/pdf/PLAW-112publ95.pdf/RK=0/RS=y9Bu33GhuT2V54p7RQyML.DiYtA-

And here is the FAA link to a PDF where they acknowledged it as law,
http://www.faa.gov/search/?omni=MainSearch&q=Interpretation+of+the+Special+Rule+for+model+aircraft, click on Interpretation of special rule.

If congress made it a law and the FAA acknowledges it, the FAA can not regulate us in any manner. As long as we follow the guidelines.

anyone here go to Catholic school? me neither, but I heard a lot of stories about nuns that I'm glad I didn't have to experience first hand. Why do I bring this up? Imagine that the FAA's being run by a bunch of crusty crotchety old nuns, they don't understand, they don't want to understand, if they tell you to stay seated you stay seated even if it means you piss yourself.

so if the FAA says we're going to try to be nice about this and only charge you $5 for three years and even make it free if you jump onboard within the first 30 days, then you do it, they're happy, and they don't come back for another swing of the yardstick across your back.

the worst thing anyone can do, and you can ask Bob Hoover or Sen. James Inhofe if you don't believe me, is say "no f'ing way" to the FAA because if they don't impress upon you the first time just how absolute their power over airspace is, they'll make it worse the second time around.

i don't blame people that won't register but i also won't sit here and pretend to feel sorry for anyone that screws up and then is found to have been flying without registration and is looking at a big fine. technology marches on and in this case it marched us into a **** sandwich but i like flying RC planes more than I like fighting over a $5 fee. Regarding the collection of information, my cell phone snoops on me more than any government employee ever could and i seem to be ok with it so that won't stop me either from getting out and flying whenever possible.

yes this sucks, yes this is a nuisance but i'm familiar enough with the FAA to know that they don't stop until they win and in this case it looks like they could have been much more punishing but they chose not to.

rant over, flame away, i still love you guys! :)
