IMAC JTEC MX2 3.1 Build by Terry P

I got a little more done on he MX the past couple of days.
After preparing all of the sheeting for the stabs, wings, rudder and turtle deck I started on the hatch. The parts for the hatch consist of the laser cut base, formers and mounting tabs. Once the base is aligned and clamped to the top of the fuse the mounting tabs are placed into position and the 1/2 x 1/2 balsa stock is glued along the outside edges of the hatch base and mounting tabs. The three formers are then glued into place followed by the 1/4 x 1/4 stringers to form the top of the hatch. I stopped at that point with the hatch and set it aside so that I could sheet the rudder. I used some carbon fiber tape in a W pattern to add some stiffness to the rudder and along the hinge line. Once the rudder was in the vaccum bag I installed the wing and stab tube sleeves in the fuselage and the stabs. I checked the fit of the stabs to the sides of the fuse and they were perfect so no sanding was required for a flush fit to the fuse. Now it was time to sheet the stabs, again I used carbon fiber tape in the same W pattern as the rudder. I use West System 105 epoxy for all of the sheeting of the foam parts. I know I have not gone into a great deal of detail but please feel free to ask any questions of what has been done so far.

So you should have it ready to fly in a week or two depending on snow, RIGHT!!
The snow and having to leave to go back to work next week will slow down my progress to some degree. I should have all the control surfaces sheeted this weekend, so all of the major airframe components will be completed before I leave on Tuesday.

So this marks the third weekend since you picked up the kit and that's counting the weekend you picket it up. So in less that 3 weeks you have it framed up!!

So do you think it builds easy!! What's your thoughts if someone wanted to try building for the first time?

That's right Al, in less than 3 weeks its all framed up and all but one wing is sheeted. I would have had it sheeted also but I ran out of carbon fiber, next time I will order 100 feet of the stuff !
This is the perfect kit for the first time builder or anybody wanting to build a kit. A few of the reasons I say this is because the entire fuse is all interlocking laser cut parts which does not need any sort of jig to keep it straight. The fuse can be built in a day.....its takes longer for the glue to dry than the actual assembly of the motor box and fuse.

I managed to get one wing in the bag today......did not realize there was not enough carbon tape for both wings. :sorry: Oh well the other wing will have to wait 5 weeks until I get back from the Mother Land.
