This is a cool idea....you could use a throttle to throttle mix on a switch so you can have your power back " just in case". Displacement limitation would be a hindrance because it would reqire a custom plane to balance with a small engine. For example the plane I just wrapped up last night is 25lb. A DLE55 puts out an average of 30lbs of trust!

I don't mean to bring a dark cloud to the party, but.... Is it Broke? Needed?

How would the guys that compete with ARF's compete?

Jerry, I think the idea would be to have an additional entry category, NOT eliminate ARF's, or change what a typical IMAC contest currently is. If anything I think having a scale category that could be flown by those who would like to add scale realism and flight characteristics could possibly bring more pilots to our game.

I LOVE IMAC... obviously, its one of the most looked forward to thing in my lil world and dont want a single thing changed, is it perfect, no, but what is in this world? I'll take it as is for as long as I have the eyesight for it and have the strength to hold a remote, flip a prop and shake a hand... and raise an occasional trophy, hopefully.
Just an idea to add another class or even another reason for a person build/buy and fly a scale machine in a scale manner and have a lil judging done on the ground for all the hard work one has done for the love of things flying.
I guess this arena is already called the Scale Nationals, but that only happens once a year in one or two towns of the country and usually thousands of miles away from most homes and fields and might... might , be nice to do more often than that.
I think the addition of a scale class could not only add attraction to IMAC events but a whole new wave of membership and builders to whats already my favorite mix of people.
I knew this topic could stir some folks, but believe me Jerry, theres zero intent to want to change what already works.
Id like to see and plan to do, a scale freestyle presentation of an actual airshow performance sans hovering and the like for nostalgias sake. Could care less about a shiny prize for it, the "win" would be my happiness and maybe turning someone else on to it too.

I think it is an excellent idea! I love IMAC but it would be nice to see a more realistic form of flying. I like seeing a plane flying on its wings, not because it is overpowered.

. Btw, I have nothing against a wild 3D throwdown, I dig it, and it draws quite a crowd. The hobby, at least giant scale would not be growing at this rate without it.

Agree, many ways to enjoy this hobby. I enjoy watching a good 3D pilot just as much as a good IMAC pilot.

I'm not opposed to a separate scale competition. A static score and a flight score to replace freestyle would get my vote.

I am opposed to any aircraft limitations to the current IMAC contest.

Diversity of all flying skills is great. I like the true scale aerobatics. I have several hours in a full size Decathlon doing aerobatics training and power to weight ration is not even close to what IMAC flies.
