Definitely great work on those cooling slots, good to have more than just the cowl. Was balsa under ann of those slots? Did you CA the wood and or pain it white? I am worried that the covering could peel back but don't know for sure.

noob question. I noticed from your photos, how deep the wings fit into the fuse. Is that common for giant scale, or is it a PAU feature?

I like 'em "BIG"!

Thanks.... The bottom of the fuse is Balsa sheeted. I drew out the cutouts then cut through the covering and the balsa sheeting. The covering shouldn't come up since the exhaust stacks hang down far below that line. I may "seal" that area just to be sure it does not come up.

Day #2 started where I left off last night. I wanted to get most of the electronics placed and "buttoned" down. I think things are pretty well set now. I will wait until the motor is mounted and the rest of the plane is complete before I place the ignition battery. As it stands, I am pretty certain it is going to be up front like most all my other planes. So far, only one has had to have weight added to the tail to balance out. (It just so happens the one that needed weight added to the tail was the only one I ran the rudder servos in the middle of the fuse with pull-pull cable.) The rest seem to come out pretty great for balance and no added weight.

A quick trip to the local D&B provided just the right setup for raising the Smart-Fly up for air circulation and reduced vibration. View attachment 9045 View attachment 9046

Next I placed both rx. packs and strapped them in. Pretty much a perfect fit.

Next I secured the extensions from the tail, (rudder and elevator) to keep it all neat and tidy.

Final step for a little while was putting in the multiplex plugs for the ailerons. It's actually kinda cool how most everything just seems to "fit" into the cut outs and lightening holes of this airframe. Sure is making it go easy and fast.

That's it for now...More to come later.

I've been thinking about using the same sort of set up for my ailerons on my PAU. When you plug those multiplex plugs in do they lock in place so they won't unplug during flight? I need to figure out where to buy those. I've only seen the green ones.

They do not lock into place but they are a snug fit and you need not worry about them coming undone. Those look like they came from taildragger. If you see me avatar, I was using the green ones from dreamworks (same multiplex type plug) and they were still plugged in and working even though the plane was in pieces.

I also have the ones from taildragger in my slick that has 3 ail servos and they make putting together the plane at the field such a breeze. I have a few more sets from taildragger at the house waiting to go into my PAU edge. I also use the green version in my ef extra...pretty much every plane I have with multiple servo wings have them and I love em.
