More CAD work. Modeling fittings and struts to put a full scale Staggerwing on floats. Next up are the wires.

So many different angles to the fittings and struts but it’s finally all dialed in such that the bolt holes align. In the final scenario, the dimensions between the fittings which bolt onto the floats had to be adjusted. Now the distance between front and rear is ~3/4” more than the original drawing dimensions. Not too bad from slide rules in 1937 vs CAD in 2025. Next step is a full scale mockup before the expensive materials are ordered!

Modern float struts are manufactured differently than in 1937. The plan will be to change the struts themselves to this style of attachment.

Note the rows of bolts in the ends of the struts.

I've hand built full scale beaver float struts before... it's been a while. Basically it's tubular strut stock, that has phenolic or metal supports between two aluminum straps. The bolts are aluminum with the threads pressed stamped. Now they just use steel bolts with nylock nuts!

I’ve been scratch building a greenhouse for the wife. I finished putting on the roof panels this morning. The whole top and half of each long side will be twin wall polycarbonate. It’s 10’x16’.

I saw a friends high-tunnel (green house) and he put in an automatic vent shutters with a fan attached to control the heat and humidity. . . I was quite impressed! Yours is looking fantastic!
