The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I played today boys. Played with some warbirds. So that's a bad thing? Not. hee hee….

Actually I spent the day setting the cowl on the Phoenix Strega. I am always surprised how long it takes to mount an engine and set a cowl. Trying to be very precise about this so it looks nice. I won't bore you all with the details because we all have done this a couple of hundred times right? But I will post lots of photos. The photos should be self explanatory. All in all, the engine install and cowl setting came out pretty nice. I think I can live with it.

And no... they are not in order. Too lazy tonight. LOL



Back to work tomorrow. Grrr…. I just wanna play with my Stangs.

Are you using the clamps to attach the Teflon tubes?
I see you can surgically take them on and off through the ignition lead, but what about exhaust exit? I’m asking too many questions to the yet to be done, or tune in next time post ha ha

I will be using the clamps to hold the tubes in place. And yes, you are quite observant. The only way to get into them is through the opening for the ignition lead with a pair of angled nose needle nose plyers or surgical hemostats. Unfortunately the exhaust will not allow the cowl to be put on or removed with the tubes in place. They will have to be an "after" the fact installation. LOL

Next thing we know, someone will decide all this is too much work, and will split the cowl!

All I can add to this is after I split my first cowl a number of years back everyone since then no mater the size it has been split.

Done that before. I think the crate I built ended up being 76” long, 36” wide, and 24” tall. Boy I was nervous the whole time till the new owner said it arrived safely.

Backtracking a few pages to report successful delivery by Greyhound Package Express.
The new owner received my comical packaging effort and reported no damage. I was super nervous until that point!
Disappointed that no photographs emerged from the ordeal, as they would have provided tremendous entertainment value.
Wings and tail surfaces had their own padded hand-made “envelopes”, and the fuselage suffered from an abundant use of bubble wrap!
As they say “All is well that ends well”.

Hay guys does anyone know what has happened to @49dimes. Have not heard from him in a while hope everything is ok or has is gone on an extended vacation.

He’s been having some health issues last I heard.

I tried calling him a couple of times, with no response. Mike is correct. Kelly has had some very extreme health issues going on. I can only hope he is ok and pray for a positive outcome.
