That looks pretty good for quick fix. Got you back in the air quickly the match looks good or did you paint the hole cowl.

Masked off a small section. White, then remasked for red, then free handed the silver... which I did not make a very strait line on. The red was pretty darn close after three coats, the overlap red on red turned out dark.

This is good enough for me and didn’t strive for perfection.

10 ft In the air nobody would know or even be able to see it, all that counts is you happy and back in the air at minimum cost.

Was just checking out my 3w-42 yesterday because it just was not quite right, could not put my finger on it but it took a few more flips to start and would not take the throttle as it did. So I ordered a set of reeds, carb kit and a spark plug from 3W good people to deal with. Will rebuild it and see then how it runs just hope it is not the ignition because they are very expensive and I would not like to spend that kind of money on an engine that old, but saying that it still ran as good as they Day I bought it till a couple of days ago.

When the time comes and you find the Ignition is not up to par just get a new RcExcel for it. You can find them for about 60 bucks to the door. IMO probably the best ignition out there for the money. You might have to change the prop hub to a single magnet depending how old your 42 is.

If I do need an ignition I will ask you guys what my best option will be. And yes it is an older one with one magnet. Yes it is old it is one of first 3W-42 that aircraft international brought to the states.

Teach yourself on the sim first and you'll do great. It worked great for me and I was flying in no time.
There was a great training program on Helifreak or RunRyder one or the other. The part of it that helped me the most was where you went to the helicopter training circle in Realflight and set it as big as it will go then give the heli a little rudder trim until it's rotating 1 revolution per minute and try to hover in the circle as it rotates. Once you can handle that for 10 minutes without crashing or leaving the circle you'll be able to handle the real one just fine. You can also do it inverted, that's fun.

That should keep you busy for a while. Did the same thing you are doing work hard at it for a year could take off land and fly around not great but could fly around land and come home in one piece, then I got board of it and sold all of it like planes better.

First thing I did was re-wire the battery. I didn’t like the way they had the wires routed and they zip tied them directly to some angle iron. So I re-routed them are used some snakeskin to protect them. I don’t think I have any pics of that though.

Next I installed a couple Maxxair vent covers so that we could leave the vents open without having to worry about rain getting in.

Then I built a sewer hose storage compartment using a 5”x 5” vinyl fence post. I know a lot of people use the rear bumper to store the sewer hose. But I was afraid it would cause the bumper to rust out. Plus the bumper is only 4” x 4” so the brackets and the elbow don’t fit in there.
