News Great Planes dealers beware

The big thing for me is to actually touch and see an airplane in person before the purchase.
For that I am disappointed in mfgrs like Extreme Flight and AJ. They don't post enough pictures of their models let alone don't take the time to post a picture of the actual model and not it's bigger or little brother on their website. Seems like they could sell more if someone actually knew what they were getting lol.

Sometimes I wonder if they post limited pics to prevent their product from being ripped off.

You are right. There is no customer service any more. Beware of Motion RC too unless you want to rebuild the plane after you receive it. I ordered an FMS 1700mm P51. The retracts were too lightly made and the output gear would loose mesh and spin without raising or lowering he gear after only a few cycles. They kept sending me new mains but I had to dig the old ones out of the wings. In the process I broke the gear door pin off and had to repair it. The gear kept collapsing on take offs and landings which dinged up the wing. They sent me a half dozen mains before I got a pair that worked. The plane is great but it took me Five months to get it in the air reliably. I bought a Flightline P38 from them and it had a bad aileron servo. After the fiasco with the Mustang, I insisted they dig the servo out of the outboard wing and replace it or send me a new outboard wing. They informed me that their policy was that all they had to do was replace the $8 servo and I would have to repair it myself. I insisted they take the plane back and refund my money, which they did. Then when I tried to order a new one and went to their website, they put on the order that I had canceled it. Then, after Christmas, I ordered a couple of lipos. After two weeks I thought they might be on holiday vacation and waited another week to check on my order which they had charged to my credit card as soon as I placed the order. Again they said I had canceled the order and credited my card after holding my money for nearly a month. This "customer service" is tantamount to buying a new car with a bad alternator and the dealer handing you an alternator in the box and telling you their policy is you repair it yourself.

So I've been hearing rumors that Great Planes is loosing vendors (ie: Traxxas) quite quickly and the support has been dropping off as well. My LHS was thinking that GP is not going to come out on top, but Hobbico is a huge company so hopefully they get their heads out of the sand and back in the market. I cant remember seeing them come out with a product that I was excited about in a long time, let alone heard about. :(

All true. It's almost to the point where I can't place an order with GP anymore because they've lost all the vendors I use to buy. And some of them that I use to buy they now only sell direct to the public via Tower Hobbies. I've gone from 2 orders per week to an average of 2 orders per month. That's all good news for Horizon Hobby though. I've doubled up my business with Horizon.
