I think the canopy is going to live. Got all the paint sanded down or removed completely. Now it's time to try it again. I think I'll wait a day or two when I'm a little more motivated. (Really long day at work)

I also put the cowl on the Pitts to see how it looks. A little light over spray but I'm not terrible concerned. I was not too worried about using the plugs on the vents with just the red paint. I definitely will be using them when I spray the purple. I'm sure it's going to look great once done.

The paint match is really good I think. I'm really excited to get the cowl finished now.

The paint match is great the rest you can fix if the colours are bad there is nothing you can do. Not much more and this bad boy is in the air.

Here we go gents. Been a long couple of days at work. I usually shower and hit the sack after getting home. Dang, in bed by 8 in the evening? I think my younger self must be feeling really old lately. Lol.

I finally got the canopy border painted. I'm a little disappointed the paint is not a perfect match, but I'm hoping once cleared, it will give the luster and color match I was hoping for. No big though. I do have a couple of minor touch ups to do but the upside is I'm closing the gap to completion of the Pitts.

I think Mike @pawnshopmike was right. Those screws are really going to pop once they are re-inserted.

I think the match will get better when you clear it. Mine sure changed when I got the clear on. I couldn't be happier with how good of a match it turned out to be.

All this paint talk is getting to me I feel left out. It is making want to take a 9 hour drive down to my daughter to pick up my paint and finish the cowl and pants on my ViperST

Just a thought but could it be the color of paint under the purple that is affecting it. When I did my buddy's hangar nine edge the color match was spot on if I applied the paint to a scrap of covering or to some poster board. When I painted the cowl though I primed it with grey primer so when I sprayed the color it ended up being darker than the covering.

I actually considered that. But it is a white primer. I was cautioned to not use grey for that very reason. But you'll see the Flame Red is almost spot on. Same primer on the entire cowl. I am really hoping it just needs to be cleared. It's pretty close now that it has had a couple of days to dry. We'll see very soon.
Hey @Snoopy1, have her send it via mail. Lol

A little update for those that are waiting for the outcome. First, the paint (the pearl purple) has dried to a beautiful purple hue and matches the covering absolutely perfectly. It does not have the "shine" the covering has but I am certain now that the clear coat will remedy this. I am very ecstatic about this development. Second, the replacement can of Pearl Purple for the White can that had an issue arrived today. So now I am ready to shoot the cowl. However due to my dad's rapidly deteriorating health, I will not be able to get to the painting this weekend as hoped. I will be making a trip down by St. George Utah tomorrow after work to see him.
I will return to the Pitts project as soon as I can.
Thank you everyone for being patient and tolerant. See ya all soon.

Rob,

I am sorry to hear about your Dads failing health. I will keep you and your Dad in my prayers. Have a safe trip to Utah.
