I think I got a pretty good match.



Now let's just hope the rest of the painting process goes good.

The cowl looks awesome Rob. . . . . Now, lets see some color on that thing.

Oh goody goody goody. Time to see if I can mess the canopy up too. Lol
First the protective cover and masking.


Now a little primer action.



Next, I will attempt the white. I've decided to two tone the canopy to match the fuse to match the full scale Pitts. I sure hope it turns out good. Oh, and I decided to not paint the frame across the top of the canopy. Given the choices, I feel it will look more original than having it painted. I can always go back and paint it at a later time if I desire to.

And the white trim is shot. Next will be Purple. But I'll have to wait for a while to give the white time to cure.

I figured while I am waiting for the white to dry on the canopy, now would be a good time to start masking the cowl for more color. The white on the cowl has cured nicely and according to instructions on the can, it is plenty dry enough to do some handling. I am going to shoot the Flame Red first. I think it will be easier this way. Plus @Jetpainter suggested it so I'm certain it will work great. Lol. Mr. Johnson from WWRC offered me a full refund on the can of failed white paint. However I want an extra can of Pearl Purple to have on hand. Also, it will be nice to have extra in case I need it. I will try to get the red today, but no promises.



I think I have a plan to keep any over spray coming through the vents. I will block off the vents from the inside of the cowl and each individual vent will have a plug installed also from the inside. Guess we'll see how it turns out.

Well it has been a perfect day. Nothing better than getting to spend time with your new born granddaughter.



Of course I did get more painting done as well. After a quick bite from Taco Bell on the way home from my daughters house, I got the cowl masked off and ready for the red inlay. The red went down absolutely beautifully. Smooth, even and matching.



It's been a perfectly superb birthday fo sho!

Purple is next. Dang, I be havin' some kinda fun here. Lol

This may be a little late but there is a product called liquid mask, it works real well and is easy to apply and remove.

Thank you David. Yes, she is quite special. Looking down at her took me back almost 30 years when it was her mama that was laying in my arms the same way. Little girls will break a grown man into tears. LOL

Your Pitts looks almost as good as your granddaughter! Congrats!!
