AJ Laser 230z 73" Build Thread

Depends on your build to see if the CG works out for you. I mounted everything but the rudder servo and then attached it with masking tape to verify that it would work. It did for my build.

I ended up using Pull-Pull, but the build is not complete yet. I'm probably going to add a battery tray under the turtle deck, or may just split the elevator halves and add another servo if need be.

Thanks, exactly what I was planning. Did you use a 1.5" servo arm for the rudder? I ordered 1.25" arms for the ailerons and 1.50" arms for the elevator and rudder.

As a matter of fact I flew mine today. It makes me look good. Tracked on rails. I have about 3 gallons of fuel through the motor.

I thought it was 1.5 on the ailerons. I have 1.25 on there now and I come up a little short on throw for the high rate.

Have you tried increasing the amount of throw using the travel adjust in your servo sub menu? You loose some resolution going above 100% but sometimes an extra 25% or 50% above that makes a difference.

Nope haven't tried that yet. Going back out to the field tomorrow I'll tinker with it then. It's just flying so sweet, I really don't want to fool with to much.

If you are using any of the newer radios you should be able to extend your end points to about 150%. Doing so should give you the throw you want as well as give you access to max resolution. You should have them at around 120% minimum or you are losing servo torque and should go to a shorter arm or move in a hole.

Looking at my radio I have about:
100%EP 1.5" Elevator
130%EP 1.25" Aileron
75%EP 3.0" Rudder Pull-Pull
dcraft My build isn't finished yet, but it at least gets you in the ball park.
3dNater Resolution has always been a stretch for me to understand, I take it your saying that if you extend your servo end points, you'll get maximum throw/capability (resolution?)of your servo. But when combined with Expo you can harness that throw and make it more controllable. I always thought resolution was the signal clarity of the servo throughout it's range, so if you extend your EP you loose clarity like Casualplay was kinda sayin'. Do you have a link to a resolution discussion so I can get it a bit better? Must learn now!
