Yea, seems a lot of the club members there aren't happy with him based on what they told me...

One of their recent events was an absolute blast! I wasn't going to go based on previous events they had... but at the very last minute I noticed something very unusual in their Flyer...It said "Not A Sanctioned Event"...Man!! I knew it had to be a great event, especially since Gary and Ken were presiding over the event... None... not even a little of the usual BS of the previous events...Glad I finally looked at that Flyer! Almost missed one of the best events ever.

Can I ask what about it being a sanctioned event would make it better or not?

I would think it has a lot more to do with who is running it and how they were running it, than whether or not it has a listing in the AMA magazine, no?

That's a damn good question...why all the events thinks its necessary has always confounded the hell out me...but in this particular club I have hopefully endured the AMA sermons for the very last time, I hope. In previous years flying would be halted and some AMA rube would have to minister to the crowd...Absolutely sickening.

I've never had that problem at the AMA sanctioned events I've been to. Usual pilots meeting first thing in the morning, but that is reasonable.

An AMA sanction does 3 things.

1. A listing on the AMA site and if you beat the 90 day deadline, the magazine.

2. No club within (i think it's 50) miles can sanction a like event on the same dates. This keeps two clubs from having a IMAC or a pylon race across town from each other.

3. Site insurance if you want to use a site other than a site listed on the club charter.

It also adds legitimacy to a sponsor request when you ask a manufacturer for something, if you have a sanction they know you're actually having an event.

I've been to a LOT of events, I've never ministered to a crowd. I make my presence known to the CD and club officers that may be there, give them my card and to let me know if they have any questions I can help or know the person that can.

Other than that I just fly or take pictures and send them in for the district report.

Glad to hear that. I realize its probably a localized problem for some.

There for awhile it was happening at many of the events in the area...even at the swap meets! After a few of those speeches I could even recite the speech from memory... I finally got smart and would just leave the podium area and get beyond ear shot. I finally got so fed up I asked one of the most prolific AVPs if he came to fly or just politic...as he never did...The look on his face was priceless.

I thought it was 100 miles for "C" events. As for as the insurance goes, an additionally "named insured" certificate is available without a "sanction".

I had a similar experience. Went to a scale funfly/fly what you want. So I brought a slipstream beaver. Not givin any Instructions of flight patterns or safety even though I told them I had never flown at their club before. So I fly did some inverted flat spins inverted low passes. And a couple scale touch and goes. The whole flight there was four or five club members standing behind me muttering crap under their breath. After I landed and shut my plane off. The club vp came over and made some snide comments about scale flying. My reply was your poster says scale / whatever you want. He grumbles and walks away. Now I'm pissed. So I text my buddie , bring the funjet. An hour later were doing 144mph low passes with a spotter then packed up our stuff and left. As we were leaving all we could hear was there's those ******* guys. Never been back since. So two years later he shows up at our funfly. So my buddie goes over gives him the layout and rules of the club real nice not like an ass. And he just acts like a **** again. 20 mins later his zero is in the trees , we let him pick up his own plane. I can't stand a holes.

Hey...that sounds like the club I "USED" to belong to. You sure it isn't one and the same? I and my son, and a few of our friends were constantly being "bludgeoned" over our aerobatic planes. "those planes are too big", "they're dangerous". All the while, "those" with so much to say and so much to comment on, are the ones that are totaling a plane at the rate of at least two per week. These pilots I speak of are flyinig 30 to 40 inch electrics and foamies. Some with some larger glow (shudder) and gas. In the pits, Out of our flying boundries. ON THE GOLF COURSE that is adjacent the field. Smashing them to pieces no larger than a quarter on the runway, Nearly taking other pilots heads off as they crash two feet away. I keep a constant tally of "EVERY" flight in a log book just as you would with full scale. To date, I have 1283 flights in the last four years. Two with minor dead stick damage. (Landing gear departed from fuse) and one complete total, (inverted flat spin too low to the ground) which I might add, was "WELL" within the boundaries and completely away from pits, other flyers and even the runway. And yet...."WE" are dangerous? Thank you, but I'll stay away from clubs "AND" people like that.
