Cut a big enough opening to expose the whole front of the cylinder to air, then use the pipe tunnel for the air exit.

put the muffler I had to cut it so that the muffler was also exposed also added the tunnel vent never had heat issues

New to GSN!
I guess the vent plate is the way to go. I think one should be enough. The kit came with two. Not sure what position is less likely to catch smoke oil.

Do I need to block the intakes next to the prop? I have seen some involved baffles added to cowls to keep the air close to the head. I think if I have it open enough in front of the head the airflow should be enough. The picture I posted had the cowl trimmed just enough to clear the engine. I'll make sure the entire head is exposed from the front. How much space around the head would be enough? A half inch? One inch? Like I said, I hate cutting up nice looking cowls.

Some updates to my 72"

I pulled off an amazing manoeuvre a week or so ago.

Since there are no kits left in Australia, I was forced to rebuild, and so began a huge learning curve in sheeting balsa and covering wings.

First up things needed a bit of "forced alignment" with a few quick grips and some ply... And a sheet load of CA+kicker to hold in place.
PU was then sandwiched between the old broken ply and new supporting ply.

Then the hard bit; open wing surgery and a wing tube transplant.

After many hours of gluing and sanding and covering it was time for a trial fit of the parts.

Holy crap it was straight!(ish)

Time to work out what to do with the non existent electric motorbox.
I chose to use stupidly long stand offs and 125mm threaded M4 rod to join it all together. There are lock nuts behind the blind nuts that cover the exposed threaded rod and stop any movement.
First impressions are "damn ridged" when I tried to squeeze the motor on

ESC mounted to a alloy brace now fitted to the motor box under side where it all ripped out in the crash.

I still have a lot to do, but it has been a great learning experience, rather than my usual "squirt CA and hit it with kicker, she'll be right" methods of the past.

I retired my beat up 72 fuse today:

Will be listing an unassembled and nearly complete (through spares) kit, with mostly new parts in the classifieds shortly.

Will even come with a new spare motorbox kit, the wings have been reinforced, but have a few hangar rash punctures that were patched. Canopy has a CA drip on it, there are no wheel pants, and the landing gear is upgraded to graphtech.

Patrick's rebuilt yellow one died today right after I left. Another wing failure to trash bag maneuver. He has a spare fuse and it will live again. Took out a bunch of good gear though. I am flying mine on a A60-6XS and I don't get it going super fast so mine might last a while. Such a good design, it just needs some better structural engineering.
