Twisted Hobbys Crack Laser, with a few new build tips

Yeah. It's an older guy that has been in RC for decades. We crossed while someone was doing a low pass, staring into the cloudy sun. I blinked. Pulled up and nothing happened to the plane I was watching. Then a lil panic and at the last second realized I was looking at the wrong plane. I...

Twisted Hobbys Crack Laser, with a few new build tips

Quick update. I've crashed the crap out of my laser now. 4-5 times. I've had all the control surfaces down to 55-60% for learning. I tried upping them all to 85% and wow!! Sooo much easier to fly on higher rates. Plus added in a little expo. Seemed to help as well. Over an hour of flying and...

Twisted Hobbys Crack Laser, with a few new build tips

With the 450's it seemed too far back, plane kept climbing on me. So with the 800's l was moving it much further forward. Essentially right on top of the Aileron servo. That combined with the trimmed forward from trying to keep it nose level and it was perfect. Somewhat windy/gusty which made it...

Twisted Hobbys Crack Laser, with a few new build tips

Happy to report that my first flight(s) were all successful. Had a little hiccup with the landing gear tying up with aileron servo. After a successful, albeit somewhat hard landing, the gear arm pushed up into the servo arm. I just picked up the plane as l couldn't taxi it and throttled up...

Twisted Hobbys Crack Laser, with a few new build tips

Thanks!! That's not too far back for a newb such as myself? A few tips were to keep it a lil forward of CG. I found my CG to be directly in line with the Elevator servo.

Maiden flight is set for Saturday night. Transmitter is setup, plane's initially trimmed, only thing l'll be finding out is it my battery is set far enough forward to make it fly slow instead of once. Lol. Any pics of examples of where to place the battery on an actual Laser would be phenominal!

Twisted Hobbys Crack Laser, with a few new build tips

I hadn't heard the term, but since this post was headed with " a few build tips" I kinda figured those tips/mods were what you were referring to. I was telling my Dad about the reinforcements and he just finished his Beaver a few months ago. Says he wishes he could have found out about...

Twisted Hobbys Crack Laser, with a few new build tips

Got tangled up in my car this afternoon. Started the Crack early, then just ran out of time. I'm about 80% of the way thru. Should finish up after work tomorrow.

Thank you. They've been weighted now for over 6 hours. I've made it a point to not be at home so it's not eating my soul waiting it out. Lol.

A quick question. On weighting the control surfaces 180° folded before installation, the tip in the DIY says a couple hour to overnight. Does that just essentially mean at least 6-8 hours. Got mine weighted right now but my impatience is kicking in and l really wanna get to gluing.

I actually tried the putting yourself inside the plane theory and it works......when l remember to do it. Haha. If l'm focusing on tryin somethin new it's like my one track mind forgets to stay in the plane. I'm sure some actual experience will help.

Twisted Hobbys Crack Laser, with a few new build tips

I've practiced pattern landings from both directions on several different types of aircraft for probably 3 of those hours. The rest was just fun stuff, like hanging from the prop, aileron rolls in both directions, knifes edge, etc. Where l still need practice is flying at myself from my right...

Twisted Hobbys Crack Laser, with a few new build tips

Is this to keep the planes climb in check a little bit? Or is it something to do with ease of control?
