If someone ones both or did can you give the advantage of one against the other have a DA85 and would like to a little more power in the plane. Will the DA100L do the trick or is not worth the effort or the money.

The 100L is a pound heavier, but might make a little more power, maybe. But the 100L is certainly smoother running.

I doubt you would see much, if any, power increase considering your adding a pound. I've flown a 107" Pilot Extra 330SC with a DA85 and an RE3 tuned pipe and it had plenty of power.

I have a DA 100 (not L) and it has good power and smooth as silk. I flew it on a 105" Extra 260, but I like rocket ship power so I put a DA 120 on it and now it is a rocket, but not nearly as smooth as the DA 100. The DA 100 I have is a sweet running engine although quite a bit on the heavy side.I just changed it out about two weeks ago.

It is a pound heavier than the DA 120. Great for IMAC flying and general 3d, just not ballistic on a 35%er. I remember one guy had a DA 85 on a smaller plane than mine and it was decent but I don't think you could really compare the power to the 100. It has a lot to do with the plane and style of flying.

Thanks for the information. Looks like from what you have described is that DA100L is not the way to go not enough difference to make the change. So if I go for a DA120 that should be a big improvement, and not much heavier only 5oz. One question which engine the DA85 and the DA120 of the two engines which one shakes harder, is a 120 a smoother running engine.

    Hey @Snoopy1,

Don't overlook the 3W110. My flying Buddy put a 3W110CS in his 35% Carden Extra when his DA-100 ate a C-Clips on one of the connecting rods. Even with the 3W running rich due to being new, the power increase over the old DA made the Extra a completely different plane.

In my experience the 120 is definitely smoother and has awesome power.

Yes I would love to buy a 3W110cs that would be awesome to own one but the price is a little much. But yes it would be nice to have one.
One thing the @stangflyer would be proud of me if i had two red heads.

From all the info above it looks like the choice is pretty straight forward buy a 120 and mussel it in to the cowl and hope it does not tear the front off. Priced the motor at the LHS it was $1525. Have save for a while to get it or pick it up at JoeNall next year, this flying season is almost over. Thanks for the help and info.

    49dimes Damn I'm hungry

Saw this rendering......125cc.......Old School Piston port induction o_O (no reeds)...... Compact heads/angled plugs to fit smaller cowls......Fairly light weight ...... Slightly more powerful than a speeding mini bike:on_the_go:......Says it will 3D a 35 center :cautious: but better suited to scale :ugh:.....Dirt cheap price :money_talks:......Will make you wish you had held on to the lighter more powerful DA85 :big_yes:.....

    It is a "pretty" though!
And everything flies so much better when it's pretty :In_love:.
