I just looked up the motor you were using from what I can see it is very close the XPWR that is installed in the Timber. The only difference is my batteries are mAh 400o. Just trying to see how good my setup will be. The motor you picked is one of the best, we’re you pleased with the power, on your plane.

At the time the XPWR 30cc was out of stock and they were going through a design flaw of the X mount breaking. This is now resolved. Based on Tim's recommendation I used the Motrolfly 4330-216kv I chose the Castle 80HV. It never peaked over 70A in the air with a 20x8. I think I should have tried a 19x8 prop. But the plane was never sluggish, just not as ballistic as a 60" plane. The motor was built well.

Been slowly tinkering away. Work, sleep, and baby are slowing productivity.

Redesigned another air dump. Forgot to get a better picture.
The smaller one I made a last week was painted white and put in the back.

Made a place to mount the ignition module.

Designed up an ignition wire holder. Took a few redesigns but it works now!

Thinned some epoxy and coated the entire firewall/LG tunnel area.

Created a choke holder with some G10 carbon board and a rubber grommet.

I’m getting there!!!

Got a lot of work done today.

Baffles:

Craft foam galore. Blocked the inlet ears except access to the choke rod.
Filled the gaps leading up to and mostly around the cylinder.

Put the muffler on with nordlock washers and copper RTV on the threads and mating surfaces.

Took a rough CG to figure out where it is with the DA35. Nose heavy. Dangit.

I decided to relocate the rudder servo to the tail. Had to fabricate my own place to put it. Really ate up a lot of my time today. It’s basically done now. Just need to modify a few things.

With the servo in the tail and and one Oz of weight in the tail, without fuel, and one battery in place, it’s balanced near the wingtube.
So I’ll probably leave it like it is and fly it.

So moving the rudder servo to the tail was waaaaayyyyy too much work. But it’s done.
Basically took a 2” arm to use the next hole above 1.5”, but the 2” arm is too long so I hacked it to size.
Great you say... well turned out the ball link hits the elevator. Oooooffff so I installed a custom balsa block and made a little valley in it to allow the ball link to fit.
Great you say, Nick your about done... nope. I needed to make a control rod relief in the elevator.
Phew!!! So it’s all done finally. What a feat.
Oh and I don’t have charcoal or orange covering. Daaaaaannngg

Here are some final setup pics. Conversion from electric to gasoline is now complete!

CG Check with one battery and no gas is the aft side of the wing tube.
So even with all that work the plane is more nose heavy with the gas engine still.

Time for a tune and a flight!!

Got a couple flights in! Had some tubing issues but resolved with going back to basics and retune.
One click of aileron. One click of up elevator.
I’ll need to recheck my trims to see where they were before
45 inverted was pretty neutral with the nose leveling off a tiny bit.
Tail doesn’t drop when coming in for a landing.
Love how this plane looks in the air.
Pop tops, crankshafts, and KE walls are a breeze. Very nimble airframe. Doesn’t track very smoothly, so I’ll ha e to play with rates and some mixing. Top wing goes to the belly and a toy bit of coupling to the gear.
Overall pleased. Will need to get more time on the plane to compare how the electrons were.

Took the edge up for a couple more flights on the DA35. Love the power, love the flight times.

Removed the wheels and wheel pants, installed some 3.5” FlyWheelz. Had to make a little bushing to fit inside the wheel bushing to accommodate the stock gear. Added a little Velcro fiber washer to keep the friction constant.

The black bushing was actually the other way around in the end.

Got to the field and we’ll shoot, my choke linkage grub screw vibrated out. So removed the linkage completely. Was able to manually close and open the valve through the interior/firewall.

Man... this plane is responsive, crazy roll rate, crazy everything. Love me a hyper plane. Has some intense coupling to thegear in a KE and the top/rh wing rotates more than the top/LH wing. Was getting this dialed in when... Crack!! What the???
A black bear was about 200ft from me with a cub chowing down on some greens. So I landed quickly and stayed alert. She walked towards me once but never within 150ft. She didn’t seem to mind me at all. #alaskaproblems

She was off to my direct left.

Needless to say, I broke my tailwheel AGAIN. Time for a better solution. Thinking of using a Sullivan tailwheel bracket.
