    3DHS 48" vyper

Just picked one of these up at SEFF (yellow one). Ben sold me on it. Should be fun as I like pattern flying more than 3d. Have a leader 480 and it's great for touch and goes and very precise in flying but has a tiny rudder so knife-edge is pretty much non-existent (at least it is for me)...

    60" Laser-EXP

Yeah, I'll try and get some video. Saw the yellow one in person. Want it very badly. Just waiting until they are available and will drive over and pick one up. Too nice. Wish he had them now but I don't think so. I'll ask on Wed when I get to SEFF.

    Techone Swift

Was out flying this model tonight in the perfect evening air we are having lately. This model is incredibly smooth for a foamy. Knife edge is pretty effortless and I've yet to add a mix. Waiting until I decide on the perfect CG before mixing but it's already easy to hold a straight knife edge...

For setup I do pretty much the same as 3DeltaFly. I maximize rudder and elevator on max rates -ie: most throw I can get with a lot of expo 60% plus. Ailerons are often less so set that to preference. Mid rates are maybe 1/2 that and low rates (ie: sport flying rates) are 30-40% of max or less.

Yes, for a profile this is one very nice foamy. I suppose a lot of it is the sheer size of it but it's making me want to get rid of my other profile epp foamies and just keep this one. Still prefer the balsa of course but I won't risk flying those up and down the street like I will this one for...

Ok, finally flew this today. I've got a video, not the best but gives you some idea at least. I used an Exceed Optima 480 and 30 Amp ESC. This is a very good match to this plane. I was flying with an APC 11x7 in the video but plan to switch to 12x6 or even a 13" prop as the motor was not even...

One thing nice about EPP foamies it it's easy to tuck the wires in neatly into the fuse. Almost complete, just need to attach ESC and solder on new bullet connectors on the motor. Receiver will tuck neatly into precut slot is fuselage. Added a spare tail wheel I had for the heck...

Another 3DHS 42" AJ Slick Build Log and Review

Curious as to your thoughts on it versus the 41" Edge once you have flown it a few times. I love my 41" Edge and have a buck huck in the box for when it finally dies.

Completed airframe sans electronics. Motor is going to be a Exceed-RC Optima 480. Was considering a leftover Torque motor from a previous 48" EXF plane I had but it was feeling too big for this foamy and the Exceed just bolted on perfectly and matched the color scheme so we'll go...

Well, quality control could be better. The gear holder, while nice light ply, was inserted at an angle resulting in crooked gear like shown below. A quick cut of the foam and reseating of the holder along with some twisting of the gear in a bench vise corrected this easily enough but...

    Hangar 9 Toledo Special

I've not abandoned this thread, it's just on hiatus. :) I hope to get the Toledo done soon but in the meantime I've got a new distraction (well, 3 or 4 to be honest but I'll show this one here): http://www.3drcforums.com/showthread.php?1147-Techone-Swift&p=21999#post21999

Well, can't seem to motivate myself to finish my Hangar-9 Toledo special at the moment so I've started on a new foamy. I seem to collect 3d foamies and my latest is a Techone 47" Swift. All-in-all this is a pretty impressive foamy for the price. The hinging is nice and moves freely and the...

What models in Phoenix do you use for 3D practice?

As an update i reinstalled Phoenix on a new PC and recalibrated my DX8 to it. Now more of the models fly well. Really like the big Pitts, the Hangar-9 Beast, and still the Kyosho Edge. The Hangar-9 Sukoi is pretty good also. Not a huge fan of the Katana Mini model from PA but the Addiction...

    Hangar 9 Toledo Special

Yeah, bought it as I had an order to Tower anyways and it was only $3. Better than guessing that another glue I had might work and dry clear. Nice thing about it is that it's easy, peasy to use and will dry clear so you don't worry terribly about overspill. It's also a little flexible when dry...

    Hangar 9 Toledo Special

Found one misdirection if you will in the manual. It calls for removing some plugs in the firewall with a hobby knife to allow air flow. No hobby knife was going to work here as they were just outlined, not scored. Luckily I had some spade drill bits handy:

    Hangar 9 Toledo Special

Making progress again. Got the windows glued in using zap canopy glue. Great stuff, easy to use. Used painters tape to secure while it dries: Turning out to be more work than expected installing the power system. That's mainly because I've elected to add a safety feature with a power plug...

    Hangar 9 Toledo Special

Yeah, it's symmetrical. It's purpose built to be aerobatic rather than just a sport flyer. As for the control horn I prefer not to move in on the horn on the surface as you give up your physical leverage by doing that. That's why the advice is always given to connect as far out as you can on...

Elevator control with great planes metal clevis: Homemade wingbag with reflectix foam from Home Depot. I guess this is a common idea as model airplane news just featured it here: http://www.modelairplanenews.com/blog/2012/11/08/tips-tricks-custom-fit-for-your-wing-november/ Trays for...

    Hangar 9 Toledo Special

Will be a bit of a delay as I wait on parts to arrive. One thing I'm replacing right off is the nylon clevis part # HAN3610 that it comes with. These are probably ok and maybe just as strong but I'm opting to go with steel ones made by Great Planes ordered today along with a 70A ZTW ESC.

    Hangar 9 Toledo Special

Example of the bagged and labeled parts. To me it's a nice touch. Today's progress. I wanted to run all the power through the receiver but was concerned about the very thin wires on the servo connectors. Luckily this is a 6-channel receiver on a 4 channel plane so I doubled up the...
