I flew futaba for a long time then a couple years ago switched to a Taranis X9D using their stock FrSky protocol and opentx operating system. Huge learning curve with opentx but was well worth it in the end.

I looked into the Horus X10S for a while, Great price, Great following, lots of versatility. If a guy wanted to invest in a bullet proof Tx at an affordable price, I would suggest FrySky.
Once again, for me it came down to what I thought were lesser ergonomics and lack of a touch screen. But once again, that's just me! FrySky reminds me of the good old days where you buy whatever brand you wanted and put a crystal in for your channel... now you can use whatever protocol you want with one Tx. Hopefully there is a growing trend there. I know you can buy aftermarket protocol adapters for almost any radio these days to do just that. But you end up loosing some programmable features that the radio offers.

Started with Futaba like a lot of people, went to a JR 9503 around Nov, 2010 which never once gave me any problems and I still use that radio for a few of my planes. Also had a Hitec Aurora 9 for a while but it wasn't versatile enough even though it was my all time favorite for feel and comfort.

Bought a FrSky Horus X10S a couple of months ago and it's been great so far. It isn't as comfortable to hold as some of the others but it is super versatile and let's you do just about anything you could want to do. Learning curve is steep like @BalsaDust said but it's manageable once the little pieces at the beginning fall into place. The higher end gimbals and affordable receivers are awesome.

Question I have FlySky I-10 , Turhigy I-10 Turnigy 9xr pro Turanis I-7 which is best for Giant scale 50cc gasser planes . The flysky I-10 throttle trim is at the halfway point making adjusting throttle idle difficult . What brands do you guys fly ? thanks Don Sager .On the FlySky I-10 the throttle trim only works when the stick is at mid point . I've talked to FlySky and they didn't know how to get it to work at the idle position . They recommended I use throttle up function to adjust the idle on me engine . For Electric's no need for trim .

I just came across that this morning. There has been something funky with throttle trims on my Horus X10S and this morning I realized the lower half of the throttle trim affects the upper half of the throttle range and the upper half of the throttle trim affects the lower end of the throttle range. So at middle trim I'm set up for idle cutoff but at full throttle if I go below half trim it backs off the top end. Super weird, was going to start trying to figure it out today. Glad you mentioned the problem, now I don't feel as crazy.

edit: @Don Sager if you haven't figured this out yet, under the Model menu in OpenTX, the first option has a line titled "Trim Idle Only", click that and the throttle trim will affect the bottom of the throttle range only. A quick search turned that up pretty quickly.

A fella at the fly-in had a HORUS 10 he got dirt cheap at an estate sale. Couple of Benjamins did his bidding. Put my hands on it and it felt pretty darn good. The gimbals and stick tension very nice. The programming was challenging for my dead brain :concern:. Or should I say trying to figure it out made me brain dead .
