Instructions? What are these things you call instructions? No such thing on this airplane. ;)
Most wood planes that would not be a big deal for me but like glass fuselage that I have never done would be a problem. That would make life difficult and also make for a lot of mistakes and redoing stuff , that would be frustrating to me it’s a hobby to enjoy the stuff not to sweat it.

Normally when assembling these your just mounting equipment, pretty standard stuff. This fuselage is a replacement. I guess it was damaged when Chief Aircraft got it, so they replaced it before selling it. That added more work since the rudder post was not installed.

Instructions are for sissies.
I must say, Your split cowl looks real nice. Good job ole boy. When my son split my cowl for the 330 I was pretty impressed at the amount of skill it takes to do a real nice job. Oh I could have split it myself. But then it would have had more curves than Barbie Benton. You remember her, riiiiiight? :yesss:
Anyway, very nice....can't wait to see how you handle the No instruction rudder post install. But hey, knowing you it will be awesome. As always.:yesss:

I've been trying to figure out how the hinges on the rudder post are going to work out and I've decided that either they are not all correct, or you supposed to modify them to make them work.

When assembled like I think they should be, the rudder post is a strange angle to the rudder, and would need a lot of trimming to fit the airplane. It came with three hinges that are identical, and one that doesn't have a base on it which makes it adjustable. Logically the one without the base would go at the top where the rudder is narrow, and there isn't much room for a base. The problem is that the third hinge from the bottom seems too long, and forces the post to angle away from the rudder.

I cut the base off the third hinge, and now things look much better, and the post fits in the tail without trimming.

Before I can start gluing in the rudder post and hinges, I need to install the blind nuts in the fuse for the tail wheel. Unfortunately Chief is taking forever to send the White Rose carbon fiber spring that they supposedly have in stock.

It is odd to me why Krill only used four hinge points on a plane this size. I would think that a minimum of five would be more appropriately fitting. Then again, thinking back to how we used to build vs. the full scale airplane construction maybe four hinges are sufficient. Lol, huh! Back in the day my son and I were adamant in using 1/4x20 steel bolts to bolt the wings of our Goldberg Sukhoi's on. Way...way overkill. Heck the ailerons on a 737 are held on with 4 1/4x20 bolts. Sheesh...lol.
I do like the design of the slotted hinge line though. Unfortunate the execution in construction was a little "sub-par"!
Great work by the way Doug. Good stuff!!

The rudder on my Hangar 9 Extra is way bigger than this, and it originally came with 4 flat Chinese pin hinges. I think one of these phenolic hinges would out do all 4 of those.

This is actually a nice system, it's strong, free moving, sealed, and removable. It just sucks that Chief boned him with this replacement fuselage that didn't have the post installed.

Speaking if Chief, Tony is still waiting for more Hysol from them that they supposedly had it stock, but still isn't here after several weeks. I used the last of what I had to install blind nuts for the White Rose tail wheel carbon spring, which is also not here yet from Chief. So, all I can do now is stare at the airplane hoping stuff shows up.
