Why work on it now wait till you bang it a little then open it up and work on it. It is not your master piece just a 3D trainer from what you are explaining. So minimum dollars maximum excitement. Put it together as is fly it like you stole it and you will never hit the ground.

That's EXACTLY what I did today with this cheap 26cc Edge. Take off to hover and torque roll :fist_pump:. Because I'm not nervous and don't mind getting a little risky with it. Had a window of opportunity before it rained today.

The deciding factor for me was: felt good in my hands, I already own Futaba gear so cost effective, touch screen, a receiver with 14 channels or two eight channel rx’s, telemetry, proven, and for me has always been bullet proof. The company makes much more than RC products and can support themselves even if the distributer is having some financial issues.
What Futaba doesn’t say: resolution. I have no idea! All Futaba says is they are better than the old 1024, but spread spectrum is 2048 by theory just like Spectrum TX’s - Futaba claims they are superior but won’t list those specs to my knowledge. Even so, I feel locked in when I fly. I remember the switch from 72mHz to 2.4gHz... I flew a .46 Strega, and flew the snot out of it one morning, switched txs and flew it that afternoon... what a difference I felt then in response time. 2024 to 4096 I would think the response time would be the same, just smoother.
4096 would be sweet, like Hitec or Jeti. Can’t remember Groupners resolution, but I do remember hearing growing pains with their line of TX products which steered me away for now. Love what they are coming up with though.
The new spectrum 12 is pretty sweet, and I like their philosophy of not limiting the transmitters capabilities when utilizing an android interface. With that said, I think they are growing very fast, new products constantly, and thus you fancy new Tx gets outdated. They make nice products and listen to the RC community. But I for some reason haven’t switched.
FrySky Horus X10S I was considering, but the tap and scroll was one thing I didn’t want. Very impressive transmitter, and can switch Tx protocols between Futaba, Spectrum, and FrySki. A very large following and a underdog.
I’m learning the 18SZ, there seems to be a lot of back doors when it comes to programing that could be integrated better. Once figured some of them out it’s super quick to program. Some features that I wish it had, the 18MZ actually has at almost 2/3 the cost more. All those extra features I would consider luxury anyways. The new Spec radio has those features with the android device.
To be honest, right now I’m a little disgusted how much I spent on the 18SZ, should have waited and got the 16SZ, and saved a couple hundred. I’ll never use more than 14 channels.... I think. The flip side is I got a compatible charger and a LiFe battery with the 18SZ. You can get a life batt and Use an external charger with the 16SZ, program it to LiFe.
As far as the sticks go, really nice to adjust the tension, but overall feel seems just like my old broken it 8FG. Honestly cannot feel a difference.
I maidenned my new 18SZ with my crack yak and loved how it felt, super easy to adjust my expo and DR on he go. My first Tx with speech and vibration alerts. Way cool

I’m happy with the transmitter, not disappointed with the amount of features, and love the ease of programming via touch screen.

My wife just asked what I was doing... like 30min ago and asked again just now... time to stop writing a book. HA!!! I hope someone enjoyed a delicious cup of coffee while reading this.... mine went cold

Being an ex-Futaba guy I think you can get a super fast 7ms frame rate with all digital servos being used. HS mode I believe.
With my Spektrum 11ms is the fastest I can get.

Freaking awesome info. Thank you so so much for taking the time and putting forth this effort. It is greatly appreciated. By the way because you were not sure... Graupner resolution is a smooth as silk 4096. Just out of curiosity, what did you pay for the new 18?

Had a little shop time this weekend so I was able to work on my Shoe Shrine. Got the top built, sanded and hinged. Then took it back apart so I could slap some finish on it. Got the first coat on it. Should have this project wrapped up in a couple more days.

So I mounted the 3WDLE 55 on the CMP Red Bull Edge this evening. I figured I would custom paint match the stand off spacers. Personally, I liiiiike it. Lol.

I need to pilfer through my exhaust stash. Hopefully I have a header. I really want to run a canister. But if I aint got what I need, I ain't gonna buy it. This Edge is going to be my rock bottom cheapo assembly. Gotta see if I can get one airborne for less than @49dimes. So far, I've spent 13 dollars. Let's see ya beat that Kelly. Bwaa haa haa

Thank you for doing that. It was very informative, helpful and well written. That is the information that helps me on my way to make a discussion on which radio to buy thanks for doing that.

Playing around today. It's really nice to actually be relaxing and doing what "I" want. Instead of what I have to from week to week. So what did I do? Put my 4" White Rose wheels on the Red Bull Edge main gear...

And everyone is entitled to at least one 3WDLE 55 once in their lifetime, right?

Also took the time to do all the mods that helps these lil guys out a bunch. Even added a Bowman ring. It may not be able to turn a "dub" sized tree trunk. But it'll still look good tick-tocking along.

Really like the wheels that is a nice addition to the plane, also like the way wheels are mounted with nut and bolt. And the nut looks special small with built in washer, nice did that come with the wheel.
OK the paint job on the motor is really good and the colour is great is it a metallic red or did you get rattle can from 3W.
