It's shiny!! After 1 heavy coat of Nitrate and now 3 coats of Butyrate I think its ready for a coat of sanding sealer, then color :)

Well that blows my mind. I thought sanding sealer was for exposed balsa or wood in general I never heard of it being used after 4 coats of dope. I obviously don't understand the process. But I'm sure there's a perfectly logical explanation. Maistro----

OK I went to sigs catalog and read about it and its dope with fillers and can be used on Butyrate at any time. I Gather you can put butyrate on nitrate but not the other way round.

Yep, that's it. We use Nitrate on the wood and then the first coat on the fabric because it adheres to those things better than Butyrate. Then the Butyrate sticks to the Nitrate.

Rule of thumb, after you open the Butyrate can for the first time, put he Nitrate can away and leave it away! Lol

Not a problem for me, I have respiratory problems, COPD, and cant use anything with an aeromatic chemical base, I cover with Solartex and Paint with latex. The trips to the emergency room really interfere with building and life and such. So no super glossy hand rubbed dope finishes for me I'm afraid. I'm 71 and I have to avoid all that sort of stuff if I want to see 72. lol This is going to be a marvelous airplane, cant wait to see it finished and flying.

Dope and sanding is done! I spent this evening cutting out the servo bays, hatch openings, ect, ect and putting a little dope on those edges to seal them down.

Then re-test fit some things to ensure that the dope and covering doesn't interfere with it going together.

Tomorrow evening I'll be cleaning the shop in preparation for spraying color!

I'll use my airbrush to put down the black first for the pen stripes. The Red and White should be here Thursday, so maybe I'll get to put the white on over the weekend :)

Sorry for the delay in updates, just about he time I got her ready spray it started raining here... And I haven't been able to get the humidity in the shop under 60%.

Hopefully I can spray the pinstripes tomorrow, as its going to rain but it also supposed to cool off. Which means I can turn up the heaters and dry the shop up.

I don't think it's ever going to stop raining here, so I feel your pain. Especially since I remember my days painting Lacquer when you had to turn the heat on on a 85 degree day just to get the humidity down enough to paint.
