Hopefully the link post here since its from another forum site but if you scroll through the first three pages you can see Triflyer3D's build of one of his designs. I got a lot of the same build style from this thread and at one time having one of those planes other than I'm using a wing tube instead of the wing joiner spar.

Thanks for that interesting read. Good builder and explained things well. Like the way he went back and changed the plane until it flew just like he wanted.

Yes he is a very good designer and builder. If you look at his profile picture that green triplane is a full scale plane he designed, built, and flew.

Have a general question on counter balance on elevators. Are we adding counter balance to the elevator to help the servo or are we getting more authority from the counter balance part. If it is to help the servo that is easy to solve just mount a stronger one.
I do know a number of years ago I removed a counter balance of a pattern ship and did not loose any knife edge authority and it had with less coupling.

Assist the servo is not really something I thought about on these and honestly with the servos we are using now I don't think its helping that much. More then anything I think its to add a little more authority to the control surface as well as aesthetics (they just look cool). On this 20cc version I'm not sure how much coupling it will have but I can say from flying all the other versions this is how they pan out. 44" electric, 48" electric, and 56" nitro ones had no coupling that I could tell. the 55cc gas version did want to tuck the nose just a small bit in KE but honestly I never flew it enough to fully dial in the CG to my liking. The video linked in the first minute I'm doing back and forth KE passes in the snow. If you slow the video speed down as slow as it will go and watch it never looks as though I ever touch the elevator once I get it into the KE.

To finish answering the question though I do not think building without the counterbalances will hurt its performance. In every one of them I have built and flown in high rates I end up not having set to full deflection as if I do it ends up more like and airbrake.

Man that aeroplane flies great. The response is excellent and absolutely no wing rock which one one thing my pro 260 does a lot. Cannot wait till I get mine done and in the air. Thanks

Yes the 44" was my favorite of all of them I think just because it was easy to fly in my yard and would wad up in a ball when you stuffed the sticks in the corner. I can send you the plans for it as well if you want to build it at some point. In that video the plane was still nose heavy as well where I had switched from 3S to 4S power. Once I got the CG back again in was even better.

I will take you up on that some time, thanks for the offer. That may be a good project for next winter.

Well making some progress decided to do the top stringer across the top of the plane out of one piece. It is made up of four 3/32 by 5/8 wide strips. Wetted and soaked until it fitted in. Will let dry over night then take it out and then glue it all up and put it back in the jig.

What size batteries and motor did you install in the plane
