What happened to the triple deuce quad? What version? My sons is a V3 and is basically badass. Not as so bad as his daddy's read headed beast quad. But pretty darn close. I think about the only I don't like about the 222 is that they (DLE) did not upgrade it when they up'd the 61 and the 120. (Which by the way is actually a 122) Wouldn't it be awesome if DLE made a 244 quad? Or better yet, a 366 six cylinder. Ah but you know what would happen then? 3w would bring back their 6 banger. Like that would be a bad thing? Lol

I know you like big planes but 366cc engine would be hard to find a plane for it and I do not know what your maximum limit is for rc planes but I am sure that you will be way over. But sure would be fun trying to mussel that info a 40% size plane

Does Airman wheels still exist. I cannot get on there site or is it some kind of secret.
Hard to say. Last time I attempted contact with them, the gal who does the shipping and taking care of business lost her phone to her baby. (He was playing with it) It is so difficult to get in touch with them. And when you do, they mess your order up bad. Ask me how I know this. I have one last set of brand new Airman Wheels left. When they are gone, I guess that is it.

The strange thing about it all was that we has been flying it for 5 years. And as you have said it is a power house and has run flawless except for the a couple of ignition failures. Just on Sunday at slightly above idle it failed with absolutely no warning. And looking at the 2 good cylinders they look like new and to that I think that red line oil does keep things really clean and with just about zero carbon buildup.
I am afraid to ask for the fear of insulting anyone. You mentioned the rear two cylinders. The front were almost like brand new. So, two questions... Was the quad baffled well? I ask this because simple twin baffling just simply is not enough. Second question, did he have the rear cylinders a tad richer than the front? This is an absolute "MUST" with quads. Not only does the proper baffling help them to stay cool better. They also need that extra little bit of fuel to keep them cool. Case in point, my sons 222 runs temps right around 180-190 consistently. And that is actually on the threshold of proper fuel atomization. Anything cooler and the fuel would probably not burn completely and the engine probably would not perform. My Dub 212 actually runs around 195-205. Actually just curious Snoops. I would hate to see you all put all that money into parts and have the same thing happen not far down the road.

40% Oh absolutely not. This would be an awesome engine for the Hemple 50 or 60 percent 260. That engine would be a perfect motor for many airframes. The Exclusive Modellbau Pitts or Christian Eagle would be two more that would be awesome with this size motor. Or how about his new 57% Extra that uses the ZDZ 420? Oh yeah baby...a 366 six cylinder? Now that would be very cool. LOL

Ok had the opportunity to strip the DLE222. It is a mess, on of the bearings failed on the Conrad on the piston end. The needle bearing failed and went through the two back two cylinders. Will have order some parts and clean it up and put it back together. Must say it is not a bad engine the machining is not bad.
I am curious, how much time did the engine have on it?

The baffling was done very well. Another thing Mike does not do 3D with the plane. It is flowen like a pattern plane. When the plane was first built we checked the cylinders for temperature quite a few times and if my memory serves me right they were all within 20 degrees. One thing I can not answer is if the rear cylinders were set a little richer. One thing he does like to do is scream across the deck. When looking at the engine yesterday it did not seem to have been over heated. But one thing that I have talked about with him was that the setup he had the prop just screamed when he went across the deck, and said that he needed a bigger prop. The prop was with the recommended size range. By the way it is not insulting at all if you are asking questions trying to help.

Thanks for the reply. I need a set of wheels but cannot get in touch with them. And the last time I did it was a mess. Wrong wheels and then I got two wheels different diameter it did get sorted out after a while but not good service.
Just do not know we’re to get a good set of wheels now.

The engine is five years old and is flowen regularly. But you need to know is that our flying season is only about 6 months. During the summer it is flowen at least 5 to 6 times every two weeks. From those numbers it probably has 700 ro 800 flights on the engine.

Ok, I see what you mean. Also depends on how aggressive one is on the engine. I have one plane that has probably around 500 flights (guesstimate), but probably 90% of those have been extremely aggressive and a lot of back and forth throttle from 3D stuff. Certainly not the same and someone who flies simply circles and smooth throttling. There are also other factors such as vibration, heat, and so on.
