Talking with some buddies we feel built up are stronger therefore they don't flex as much and will provide better authority in higher energy maneuvers. Adds a little more time to the build and is a little more complex but I think the end result with be worth it in both the performance and looks department.
I have to agree with you I have built both and I prefer the built up ailerons

What is the fiberglass tube that spans into the second rib in each wing for? Assuming to pin to fuse, but why extend beyond the root?

Originally when my buddy drew the wing drawings up in devwing (before I learned autocad) we put it up there to help carry the load since the main tube is further back in the wing than normal. Now I don't think it's really needed but still put it in any ways.

Gotcha. Thanks!

Just picked up a smashed edge 540 from a friend he decided that he was not going to rebuild it so offered it to me. It is a 20cc plane. The tail section and the wings are salvageable so what I would like to do is build a profile fuselage for the wings and tail feathers. Would it be possible to send me a Cad drawing of the fuselage that you have drawn so that it gives me a good starting point and that all the proportion are correct so that I can end up with good flying plane. The plane is as attached link.

Only thing that will be problematic on that is the wings have a tapered root rib to fit the fuse. Give me a few basic specs of what you would like to see and I can draw up something for you that already looks like an edge in the next few days.

Thanks for the offer. I will take a few measurements when I her back home. The tapper at the wing I will take care of will build it up to make square to the wing. Thanks.

Can I ask you for 2 dimensions A and B this will give me a starting point to work from. The dimensions from this 20cc build. When I do the layout for this plane thanks.

A on the Giles is 46". The Giles I designed a little shorter though and most other slabs this size it's around 50" with a total length of right at 60" long where as the Giles is only 56" long.

B on the Giles is roughly going to be 13-1/2". Remember though that your cg is all based off the wing and has nothing to do with the fuse.

Thanks for that you are correct about the CG but that 13 1/2 dimension gives me the wing location and the ratio of the fuselage so that it balances.
