CRRC GP50R

Damn I'm hungry
The DL50 I have is tired and wont tune well in the midrange (using canister/header) so I'm in the market for a new 50cc engine. Researching I found that the CRRC GP50R can be had for about 325 to the door. Hmn...DA50R is only a hundred more but is the CRRC worth the money? I have actually thought of just ordering bearings/carb for the DL50 and attempt to mate a DA50 cylinder/piston/ring to the DL crank/crank case. But I know DA is real sneaky with their fit and tolerances so I am deciding against getting a DA50R and getting the GP50R. The only thing about the GP50R that I noticed is that it has a six bolt hub vice 4. The mounting foot print is the same as the DA/DL. What is the word on this engine? Any good?

This is just my opinion as a DA fanboy, so take it for what it's worth. I would buy a used DA50 before buying the one your looking at. Now, I know nothing about the engine you looking at, but I have had 3 DA50's, all bought used. One of the two that I still have, has 11 years worth of use on it. The third one I just sold for $350 which seems to be the going rate give or take.

But on the other hand, someone has to be the Guinea pig on new things, and it may be awesome. But I am not lucky enough for that to happen to me.;)

@BalsaDust I have had 3 DLE 55's over the years and no doubt a very good engine but now they are out of production and will be hard to find parts soon (just like my DL50). Also I have found that locating a NIB 55 is difficult and pricy (almost 400+ to door) Like Doug and Mike are saying I think a used DA50 might be the trick. I know CRRC has been in business for a long time like XYZ engines but have not been popular to the US market. My choices have pretty much been narrowed down because of price point and service /parts availability. Hopefully others will chime in with good news and bad about the CRRC. One thing that also concerns me is that the availability of the GP50R is limited to overseas stock only. All American distributors have sold them out. Wondering if that is saying good or bad about the engine?

Interesting. I did not know the dle55 was out of production. I assume they have gone just to the RA version.

That would be correct. My first thoughts where to mount the 55 because it has the same "everything" just a little bigger bore and stroke. But because "I CHEAP" I'm not wanting to pay near DA price for a NIB DLE 55. Used DLE are IMO abused DLE and finding a good used one is hard. Not saying you abuse your DLE's but every used one I have worked on for others have had the snot run out em.
Again this is where DA "shines" IMO. Pun intended:p. But knowing my self I will probably be a sucker for a not so cheap knock off. I'm willing to try anything once!.

I agree with you there. The ra version looks nice but like you said it's almost the price of a da50. I hate seeing the standard 55 not being made any more and doesn't make any sense to me as it was such a great running motor. I guess I will have to take care of my two for as long as I can make them last.

Believe it or not the GP50R has been around for quite some time. Almost as long as the DL50. And like the DL50 it is a hard animal to find much less parts and service. I got some time before Fall shows up (when I really want to fly) to save up for a new DA50. That's probably best thing for me to do. It will drop right in and perform awesome with the cheap China can that's in the plane. Do have an MTW header though! lol
